Internal Communication and Engagement Manager
Role purpose
To deliver an integrated approach to employee communications and enable a co-ordinated approach to
internal communications planning and delivery.
Promote the purpose, vision, mission and objectives of Catalyst by developing and promoting engagement
opportunities between Catalyst and its employees.
Create, develop, and implement co-ordinated communications plans and materials for the effective
delivery of Catalyst-wide messages. Use appropriate channels and processes to ensure that employees feel
informed and valued and are therefore engaged.
Key accountabilities
Intranet

Work with the IC and Engagement Communications Manager and ICT colleagues to develop and
manage the intranet, ensuring it is relevant, interesting, current, accurate, and in house style

Research, source, develop and write content ensuring it is credible, timely, informative, to a high
standard so that it is well received by employees

Help plan and deliver ongoing projects to keep the intranet evolving, exciting and current

Act as lead publisher to ensure that content is managed and regularly updated

Create a network of content owners and publishers to ensure all departments have the capability to
maintain and update their information.
Internal communications activity

Manage, produce and ensure various channels of communications, including a weekly employee
bulletin, managers’ monthly bulletin, quarterly reports and messages are written, produced and
published on time

Assist in the development and implementation of the internal communications/engagement plans and
policies

Work with the design team to produce creative internal campaign materials

Assist in the development of communications plans for specific projects in various parts of the
Company.
Annual Conferences and internal events

Assist the IC and Engagement Manager in co-ordinating with key stakeholders to support overall
delivery and communications related to the summer and winter conferences

Manage the delivery of internal events such as managers’ briefings and social events

Assist in organising departmental away days of the People and Organisational Development
Directorate.
Engagement

Assist in the development and implementation of engagement plans that support Catalyst to achieve
its goals

Support the development of action plans following employee surveys and ensure Catalyst-wide
communication of activities conducted as a result of employee feedback

Work closely and regularly with the Information and Consultation Group (employee group) to gain
their input and ensure key messages are communicated across Catalyst in a timely and appropriate
way.
Other responsibilities

Qualifications and experience

Proven experience in communications, ideally, supporting internal communications and implementing
internal communications plans

Demonstrable evidence of experience in managing an intranet and/or website, writing content for
print and online and publishing a range of newsletters

Professional qualification and/or degree in relevant subject such as communications & marketing,
journalism or PR. (desirable)

Knowledge and experience of managing external design and production of promotional materials
(desirable)
Knowledge, skills and abilities

A proven record of managing and delivering a range of communications using a variety of channels
ideally in diverse organisations

Experience of taking complex information and creating, writing and editing clear copy relevant to
specific audiences both for print and online

Experience of working on an intranet and other online communications tools – design, functionality
and navigation

Experience of planning and implementing a programme of communications, including progress
reporting and securing approvals of key documentation and decisions involving a range of
stakeholders

Experience of managing projects or operational tasks through their full lifecycle

Experience of SharePoint or general content management system
