Reading School District School District Position Description Position Title: Speech/Language Pathologist Classification: REA Reports To: Director of Special Education Position Goal: To provide diagnostic, therapeutic, consultative speech and language services; to act as a resource in the area of speech/language pathology to school personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. Performs speech and language screening upon request of parents/guardian, teachers. Accepts referrals of students suspected of having speech and language impairments. Conducts diagnostic evaluations/reevaluations of communication skills. Produces written reports of evaluations/reevaluations. Conducts multidisciplinary evaluations involving parents and all necessary school personnel. Develops IEPs in consultation with parents and teachers. Recommends students for therapy whose speech and language impairments effect academic achievement. Develops and provides appropriate treatment programs in the areas of articulation, language, voice, fluency. Maintains communication with parents and encourages carryover of therapy goals at home. Establishes and follows a regular therapy schedule as noted on IEP. Maintains case files for each student receiving therapy. Maintains an appropriate inventory of diagnostic instruments and therapy materials/programs. Provides necessary data to input the child tracking system and progress monitoring. Informs parents and teachers in the normal development of speech and language and in the management of communication disorders to aide in IEP development. Participates in applicable due process procedures. Participates in child study, instructional support, multidisciplinary, and IEP meetings as appropriate. Communicates with agencies, physicians, and other speech/language pathologists in the community. Participates in continuing education for professional growth and development. Ability to work mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions for practical situations.
