We are currently looking for a Flow Cytometry operator within the Flow Cytometry Service for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and ‘people-centred’ individual interested in utilising the latest in flow cytometry technology. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with researchers to provide technical support, perform, demonstrate and teach flow cytometry techniques. The position will be at entry level and full training will be given in the relevant techniques. Head of Imaging and Flow Cytometry JOB PURPOSE To aid in the provision of a state-of-the art comprehensive flow cytometry service within the Paterson Institute. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Key Function: To provide first line support to the Flow Cytometry Service with minimal supervision. Supporting the day-to-day running of the unit Carry out routine daily monitoring and calibration of equipment in the Facility. Perform and demonstrate flow cytometry / sorting techniques. Liaise with users of the facility with respect to the use and booking of equipment. Set up equipment for the researchers on a per booking basis. To maintain various other equipment installations around the Institute. Undertake techniques involving cell preparation and/or culture as required. Maintenance of equipment To report any defective equipment to the Flow Cytometry staff. Liaise with company service engineers. It’s a SO2 grade. Starting salary £18,200 (dependent upon experience) per annum. Your employment will be with The University of Manchester appointed under The Paterson Institute for Cancer Research terms and conditions. Salary is paid monthly. There are 32 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays for England. Non-time limiting position. 37 hour week. There is a probationary period attached to this post of 6 months. It’s standard for many organisations now and consists of two 3-monthly reviews with your line manager. You are eligible to join the USS pension scheme.
