REPORT FOR SATURDAY 29th MARCH 2014
Auctioneer: Paul L Gentry

Trade hits 6200gns twice at inaugural English Premier Sale
Saturday's inaugural English Premier Sale of Aberdeen-Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Lincoln Red
and Simmental cattle saw buyers eager to secure new genetics out in force and willing to
bid well for the best of the cattle on offer, with trade reaching 6200gns twice.
Auctioneer Paul Gentry said the sale had received strong support from vendors and buyers
alike, with an excellent turnout of quality cattle from many top herds in all breeds. "Vendors
with quality cattle were well rewarded, with bulls topping at 6200gns twice and females also
well sought after.
"It was great to see all breeds in demand and buyers recorded from as far afield as Lanark in
the north and Bristol in the south. Both males and females were well supported and we look
forward to building on this for future sales."
Topping the day's trade were a pair of bulls, one Beef Shorthorn and one Lincoln Red, at
6200gns, with the Beef Shorthorn at this price being Meonhill Fort Winsome from LEP Farms

Talk about an entry of two halves – firstly at the top end some marvellous well-bred well
finished cattle on offer which sold very well against the dropping deadweight quotations
and then at the bottom end plenty of rough Holsteins which were more difficult to place.
Today the ring was packed with buyers and cattle were definitely easier to sell.
Top steers were sold by new vendors in Newark Messrs Sezincote Farms, Moreton in Marsh
who sold Blues to 250.5p - £1362.72 with another at 232.5p - £1427.55 and Limousins to
235.5p - £1370.61 and 234.5p - £1285.06. Willy and Michael Seels sold Limousins to 224.5p
- £1443.54, John Stanly, Stratford upon Avon sold Blues to 223.5p - £1481.81.
Today E grades 233p plus with U+’s 220-225p and –U grades 211-218p and R grades
200-210p. O+’s 188-196p and –O’s 180-187p.
Meated Holsteins 156-164p with plainer sorts 144-152p and horrors 113-124p. Many more
quality well finished cattle required
