383 CATTLE SOLD – (19 Feeding Cows; 118 Rearing & Reared Calves, 246 Store Cattle)
FEEDING CATTLE – 19
A small entry met a packed ringside of buyers and an outstanding trade prevailed.
Taking the top three prices was Messrs W Searby & Sons who sold Limousin crosses to
172.5p - £993.60, 167.5p - £1021.75 and 166.5p - £1110.56.
Without a shadow of doubt that leaner decent bred cows are worth a fortune more
TB tested and sold on a Saturday.
STORE CATTLE – 246
Numbers certainly picking up and overwhelming confidence in the finished trade with the
ringside packed full of buyers from far and wide.
Looking exceptionally well sold were the younger cattle and the biggest lift was seen in long
term grazing sorts.
Top prices today were achieved by Steve Dorey who sold 22 month old Simmental Steers to
£1300 and 18 month olds to £1250 with 22 month old Limousins from the same home
selling to £1300.
Mr NC Roberts, Norwich sold 23 month Blonde Steers to £1240 and 20 month olds to £1140.
Bill Sim, Melton Mowbray sold 18 month old Limousin Heifers to £1120. Mr Nick Bates (t/a
G Bates Ltd), Sutton Valence, Kent sold a marvellous run of 50 (10-12 months old)
Simmental and Limousin Steers and Bulls to £1070 for both Limousin and Simmental crosses
with 10 month old Simmental Bulls to £970.
Messrs Andersons (South Wootton), Kings Lynn sold Aberdeen Angus 16 month old Steers
to £930. Messrs Carpenters Hill Farms, Redditch sold Hereford 10 month old Steers to £970,
10 month old Limousins to £900. Messrs H & MC Copley, Grantham sold 24 month old Beef
Shorthorn Heifers to £940, David Jones, Lincoln sold 10 month old Limousin Steers to £920,
Messrs GH & M Briggs, Retford sold 10 month old Limousins to £910, Messrs Robinson Bros,
Drayton sold 22 month old Angus Steers to £1010.
A truly tremendous result with genuine Farmers cattle forward, a ringside of buyers and a
great trade with vendors going away with their money!! Many more needed

Steers - 105 averaged 194.90p
Again a steady entry but trade a ‘big lump’ dearer on the week and not before time!!
Without doubt talking to several Independent Wholesalers they all say the same thing and
that is demand is very steady and ‘Oceans’ of box meat about.
Imported meat has also tipped the balance out of producers favour with major players in
both Ireland and Britain having purchased abattoirs in Eastern Europe and bringing meat
into the UK.
The same companies who were implicated in the last years Horse meat scandal are at it
again mixing and matching Eastern European Beef with UK produced product and still UK
producers can’t wait to sell cattle to these companies – Ask yourself who is the mug?
Topping the Steers today was John White, Banbury who sold Limousins to 241.5p - £1572.17
with others at 239.5p - £1616.63, 238.5p - £1516.86, 236.5p - £1598.74, 235.5p - £1575.50
and 235.5p - £1526.04. Brian Cummings sold Limousins to 232.5p - £1339.20.
Today E grades 240p plus with U+’s 2227-237p, -U grades 220-226p and R grades 212-219p
and O+’s 192-204p and –O’s 180-190p.
Today some well-fed Holsteins sold from 162-172p with plainer sorts 150-158p and very
plain Holsteins 138-146p. MANY MORE PROPERLY FED CATTLE REQUIRED
