Our Goal: To learn how, when, and why to say what to whom in Spanish.
“Those 10 words summarize all the linguistic and social knowledge required for
effective human-to-human interaction.” (Blaz 1998, 36)
¡Bienvenido! You are about to begin the study of one of the most rewarding topics in the world—another language!
The study of a language WILL open your world of experiences; showing you the possibilities that exist when you are
able to communicate with people around the globe. Congratulations on your decision and ¡bienvenido al mundo de
español!

Class Rules
Our Class: Only THREE simple rules will exist in our classroom beyond the Windham High School rules. These are the
Behavior Expectations in our classroom. They are designed to create a safe, comfortable learning environment where students
are encouraged to take risks and succeed!
1) BE RESPECTFUL.
2) BE RESPONSIBLE.
3) BE SAFE.
Our School: It is expected all school rules will be followed at all times. Please pay special attention to the Academic Integrity
Standard. The information in your Planner outlines the Academic Integrity Standard and MUST be followed at all times. The
use of Online Translators is a violation of this Standard. At NO time may they be used for any Foreign Language assignments.
Grading Policy
THE POINTS SYSTEM
Throughout each quarter you will be given assignments
that will have a certain point total. Here are a few
examples of upcoming assignments and their potential
point totals:
 Homework – 10-20 points
 In-class Writing Activity – 5-20 points
 Quizzes 10-50 points
 Tests 50-200 points
 Projects 100-300 points
 In-class Speaking and Writing Activity – 10-50
points
 Overall In-Class Participation and Effort – 100
points
How is my grade calculated?
Your grade will be calculated by dividing the
total number of POINTS you earn by the total
number of Points POSSIBLE.
Example: You earn 930 points in one quarter
out of a possible 1000. You have a 93 average
for your Quarter grade.
930
------ = 93%
1000
The point values can give you a good idea about where to focus your energy in your study of Spanish. BE
CAREFUL though, Low Scores and ZEROS (0%) will have a DRAMATIC AND DRASTIC affect on any average.
Final Year Average
Please Note: You must earn a minimum of 77% for the year in any Modern and Classical Language class in order to move
on to the next level in that language.
