Aquila, Inc.,
2000 - 2002
Aquila Inc. is a major oil, gas and energy marketing company located in Kansas City, MO.
Director, Operations

Directed operations and maintenance for a 750M energy portfolio consisting of eight independent
power projects comprised of five-combined cycle qualifying facilities, two new simple cycle
installations, and one site under construction. .

Championed the creation of Aquila Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aquila, Inc. to provide
asset management services for the company’s fleet of merchant power plants. Created an innovative
approach that kept revenue streams internal to Aquila Inc. and eliminated the need for outside
Contractors. A net bottom line savings of $1.5M on an annual basis was realized.

Managed all commissioning activities for three new merchant plants. Developed initial operations
and maintenance (O&M) budgets and initial staffing strategies to meet pro forma goals. Negotiated
long-term service agreement with OEM provider, saving $2 MM on initial spare parts.

Formed and led a team that created and implemented a standardized maintenance management
system across the company that reduced overall Plant inventory costs by 5% and Preventive
Maintenance costs by 3% which resulted in a net annual savings of $750,000 for the fleet of Plants.

Managed all boiler and machinery insurance policies, maximizing company returns by providing
expert root cause analysis on failures.

Planned and directed major capital upgrades and equipment outages totaling $10 MM to meet longterm goals for productivity improvements.

1998 - 2000
GPU International was a wholly owned subsidiary of GPU and provides operations, maintenance and Asset
Management for large fleet of domestic and international Power Plants

Directed operations and maintenance for a $500 MM energy portfolio of 10 international and eight domestic
IPP and QF sites with a combined production capacity of 1000 Megawatts consisting of conventional fossil
power plants as well as simple and combined cycle units.

Served on corporate technical due diligence teams for multiple acquisitions.

Created operations and maintenance (O&M) standards and implemented them throughout the
company, achieving a 3% increase in productivity.

Contributed to the development and management of site O&M budgets and approved associated
expenditures to meet P&L goals.

Directed major equipment outages totaling $15 MM, achieving all budget and schedule goals.

Implemented engineering modifications at several sites that reduced production costs by 5%.

Served as Station Director for a GE gas turbine plant providing dispatch and back-up power to the
Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, contributing to 98% availability at the plant.

Before selling their Generation assets in 1998, GPU, consisting of Jersey Central Power & Light,
Metropolitan Edison and Pennsylvania Electric Company, had the largest generating capacity in the PJM
system

Directed operations, maintenance and technical activities for a 750MW facility consisting of fossil power
plants as well as Simple and Combined Cycle units.

Chaired key plant improvement taskforces formed to analyze operations and recommend changes
and upgrades. Served as technical lead on large fossil plant outages valued at $15 MM.

Developed and managed operations and maintenance budgets totaling $25 MM and capital
improvements valued at $50 MM.

Worked closely with OEM manufacturers and other vendors on improvements and upgrades.
Planned and implemented preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Tracked ongoing
performance against goals for production, availability, and efficiency, consistently meeting targets on
complex projects and plant performance.

Served as Project Director for capital upgrades that reduced operating costs by 2% while increasing
unit efficiency by 1%.

Implemented new variable cost models and strategies to improve competitive bidding positions in the
