Enzyme Foldable Instructions Steps: 1. Create the foldable – Obtain a piece of blank paper. Use your foldable pattern instructions to create a four-tab, shutter fold (hot-dog style) as shown below. Cut the four front (not the back) tabs so they lift up. Tab 1 2. 3. Tab 2 Tab 3 Tab 4 Label and sketch the following on the OUTSIDE of the front tabs: On the FRONT of Tab 1, write your name and the title “What is an Enzyme?” and your name/class period. On the FRONT of Tab 2, use your notes to write Step 1 (where an enzyme binds to a substrate). Also, sketch an enzyme with an active site and a substrate that will fit in the active site. Color the enzyme RED and the substrate YELLOW. On the FRONT of Tab 3, use your notes to write Step 2 (where a substrate fits into the active site of the enzyme and is changed into products). Sketch an enzyme bound to its substrate. Color the enzyme RED and the substrate YELLOW. On the FRONT of Tab 4, use your notes to write Step 3 (where the products are released out of the enzyme). Color the enzyme RED and the two products BLUE. On the INSIDE of each tab, list the following: o Tab 1 – Write the definitions for enzyme, substrate, & active site o Tab 2 – Explanation of “lock and key” fit o Tab 3 – Write 3-4 factors that affect enzyme action o Tab 4 – Write a few examples of biological enzymes (3 to 4 examples)
