Purpose
This unit standard is for people in the automotive repair
industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
isolate the fault in the vehicle; rectify water leak into vehicle;
and rectify vehicle rattles and squeaks.

Explanatory notes
1
The following legislation, regulations, publication, and their amendments are required
to be consulted and followed where applicable:

New Zealand Road Code; Land Transport Safety Authority.

Reference to suitable tools and workshop equipment means industry approved tools
and equipment that are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to
complete the task to a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe
working practices.

Because of the particular nature of this unit standard, it is essential that the
assessment evidence is obtained from commercial jobs in the workplace under
normal workplace conditions.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Fault symptoms are interpreted from customer's explanation.

The fault described by the customer is reproduced.

2.2
Suitable tools and equipment are selected and used that enable the water leak
to be rectified.
2.3
Seals and panels that require refitting and realigning are identified and reported
to the supervisor for remedial action.
2.4
Weather strips and door seals are repaired and/or replaced according to
supervisor's instructions, so as to prevent water entry into the interior of the
vehicle.
Outcome 3
Rectify vehicle rattles and squeaks.

Vehicle components causing the rattle and squeak are repaired and/or replaced
according to vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
Range
components not requiring extensive repairs and/or replacement.
3.4
Components requiring extensive repairs and/or replacement are referred to the
supervisor.
3.5
The vehicle is road tested to confirm that the rattle and squeak complained of is
eliminated.
