Lola Aderogba Supervising Consultant: Consultant Secretary contact details: Dr. John Stevens Lisa Goldson 0151 250 6272 Description of Service The Early Intervention in Psychosis Service within Mersey Care NHS Trust has been developed to provide a seamless service throughout the trust. The service is aimed at working with people aged 16-35 who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis or showing signs or symptoms of developing an episode of psychosis. Our aim is to support young people and their families through what might be a difficult and frightening experience. We aim to get people back to what they want to do. Getting help early gives people the best chance of getting better faster. This will reduce stress and support recovery. The service is split up into three teams across the Trust based in North and South Sefton, North/Central Liverpool, and South Central Liverpool. Referrals depend on which G.P Practice service users come under as to which team they are referred to. Setting Where Work Carried Out The trainee will provide medical input for inpatients at Broadoak who are under the care of the Early Intervention team. There will be opportunities to undertake assessments of people who are suspected to be experiencing a first episode of psychosis. These assessments will be undertaken jointly with Early Intervention Practitioners. These assessments may be carried out within the community or in an outpatient setting. Follow up appointments are frequently conducted in the patient’s home jointly with practitioners. The trainee will also have the opportunity to assess liaison referrals under Consultant supervision. The trainee will undertake clinical assessment of adult and older age patients when on call. General Overview of Training Experience and Job Role 1. 2. Take part in rostered emergency work. Study for higher examination and maintain continued professional development. Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions. Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations. Co-operate with members of the Human Resources department when monitoring hours of work and other HR issues. Attend induction in each hospital or new department Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave Update diaries and calendars of shifts, study leave and annual leave Responsibilities of Trainee To attend the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. To attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled. To review inpatients regularly in between ward rounds. To supervise, monitor and assist other junior doctors in the day to day management of inpatients. To dictate an admission summary shortly after a patient’s admission, and a prompt discharge summary. To undertake assessments of people experiencing a first episode of psychosis jointly with a practitioner from the team. Thereafter to arrange follow up reviews as required (under consultant supervision). To participate in CPA reviews. To maintain up to date electronic and other medical records to a high standard. To provide support to members of the Early Intervention Team and to see carers/relatives as required. To offer basic medical checks to those patients who do not attend their GP surgery. Psychotherapy Training There will be opportunity to attend psychotherapy seminars at Mossley Hill and undertake a supervised case if this is appropriate to your stage of training. Within the team you will have the opportunity to discuss formulations and psychological interventions with the Early Intervention psychologists.
