GEO Membership Meeting 2/8/11
Meeting Called to Order at 5:10pm
Members in Attendance: David Wemhoener, Sarah Hughes, Derek Doughty, Brian Rossini, Jeffery

UAW 2322 Servicing Representative Ryan Quinn announced that one week from tonight there
will be a stewards raining open to all members at the Local office. The training will function as
an introduction and cover the legal rights and work responsibilities of stewards and members.
Additional sessions will be held later in the year.
Elections and Appointments
 Vice President Sarah Hughes introduced the new interim president Derek Doughty. Derek was
previously the GEO grievance coordinator and was appointed by stewards to serve as interim
officer after Elvis Mendez president stepped down. Derek's appointment will last until the next
election.
 Kristoffer Smemo asked if there was an interim grievance coordinator.
 Sarah answered there was not currently an interim coordinator and noted that Nigel Brisset,
who served as international coordinator, had also stepped down because he was graduating.
 Member-at-Large Anna Curtis moved to approve Derek Doughty as interim president. The
motion passed unanimously.
 Derek requested that members volunteer to serve on the elections committee.


 Anna encouraged members to also volunteer for the personnel committee.
 Sarah moved to approve all nominees to the elections committee. The motion was approved
unanimously.
 Sarah encouraged members to volunteer to serve on the joint council. GEO has approximately
40 open slots on the council.
 Anna moved to approve Kathleen Baldwin, Zane Farr and Mihnea Tudoreanu to the Joint
Council. The motion was approved unanimously.
Budget
 Secretary Treasurer David Wemhoener requested that membership consider several changes to
the 2010 Budget where actual spending had been over the allotted budget amount. A budget
document was passed out to all present.
 David moved to raise the budget line for “Purchase T-shirts/Promo Items/Raffle” to $1167.75.
The motion passed unanimously.
 David moved to raise the budget line for “Rent” to $555. The motion passed unanimously.
 David moved to raise the budget line for “Social and Recreational Events” to $1091.56. The
motion passed unanimously.
 David reviewed the proposed Budget for 2011 as detailed in the budget document. The
document contained an error on the “Internet Service” line; the proposed allocation for 2011
was listed as $15, but should have been listed as $150.
 David moved to approve the 2011 budget as presented in the document with modification that
the amount on the line for “Internet Service” be raised to $150. The motion passed with 1
abstention.
 Sarah noted that PHENOM is requesting donation from GEO and suggested a donation of
$2000.
 Anna moved to approve a $1500 donation to PHENOM. The motion failed to pass with 11
voting in favor and 13 voting against.
 Sarah moved to approve a $2000 donation to PHENOM. The motion passed.
 Sarah proposed $100 for a labor event and $500 for a movie night a Food for Thought.
 Anna moved to approve $100 for the labor event and $500 for the movie night at Food for
Thought. The motion passed.
 Sarah announced that there will be a labor-management conference this semester in New York
which GEO leadership wants to send representatives to. Representatives of management and
unions from various universities, including UMass, will be there. The rough estimated cost of
sending two representatives is $2186.
New Hires
 Sarah introduced the new Organizer, Teeomm Williams, and the new Family Issues
Coordinator, Matthew Ferrari.
