General Information on UTAR Industrial Training Programme (for the Dept. Of Electrical

1. Who are the students in your department going for industrial training?
Our students are undergoing the following courses:
Bachelor Engineering (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Bachelor Engineering (Hons) Electronic and Communications Engineering
Bachelor Science (Hons) Physics
2. In what year of study are your undergraduates required to undergo internship?
Engineering students are required to go for their industrial training in year 3.
Science students are required to go for their industrial training in year 2.
3. What kind of training does the university expect your students to receive from the
host company?
The job assignment is entirely up to the host company. However, the university prefers
the students to be involved in projects related to engineering: R&D, design, tools
operation, project organization and planning, quality control, production maintenance,
occupational health and safety, IT, etc.
4. Is the host company required to submit reports to the university?
No. But the host company will be required to evaluate the student performance during
their industrial training. We will provide the company with a Student Appraisal Form. In
addition, the host company will also be required to certify the student’s daily/weekly
logbook.
5. Will your lecturer pay site visits to your students? If yes, how frequent.
This is optional. However, lecturers are encouraged to visit companies and students once
during their training period, preferably in the second half of the period.
6. Apart from allowance, what kind of standard benefits are given to your students by
the host company?
This is entirely up to the company.
7. Are your students covered by insurance when undergoing practical training at the
host company?
Yes, all registered UTAR students are insured to a sum of RM35,000.00 during their
industrial training.
8. Is there any form of MOU need to be entered between the company and university?
There is no requirement for any MOU between the company and the university.
9. Who are the industrial training programme coordinators?
