ANNE FRANK – A HISTORY
FOR TODAY
The educational exhibition in
Malta
Planned date 28th January 2011
At Caraffa Stores Birgu
Supported by
Ministry for Education and Good Causes Funds
July 2010
The world-renowned exhibition Anne Frank – A History for Today is
now heading to Malta. Karl Borg Events partnered with Anne
Frank Foundation of the Netherlands to bring this educational
exhibition in Malta for the benefit of the Maltese society.
This unique exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank against the
background of the Holocaust and the Second World War. Although
this story took place over half a century ago, the lessons one can
learn from Anne Frank’s tragic events are still contemporary.
Discrimination, tolerance, solidarity, racism, human rights are just a
few of the topics that this exhibition addresses to its visitors. Anne
Frank could be living today and still goes through the unfortunate
events she went through. The title of this exhibition says it all:
Anne Frank – A History for Today.
Objectives
The main educational objectives of this exhibition are:




Inform visitors about the history of the Holocaust from the
perspective of Anne Frank and her family.
Show visitors that cultural, ethnic, religious and political
differences between people exist in every society. In many
countries there are groups who consider themselves superior
and deny others the right to equal treatment. Such views can
lead to discrimination, exclusion, persecution and even
murder.
Challenge visitors to think about concepts such as tolerance,
mutual respect, human rights and democracy.
Help visitors to understand that a society where differences
between people are respected does not come about by itself.
Legislation is of course necessary, but people also have to
make a personal commitment.
The Maltese islands played a part in the Second World War and we
are sure this show will bring sad memories of that tragic period;
however the young generation needs periodical reminders of the
tragedies like these in order to strengthen their values against such
atrocities. It is our objective that through various partners we
attract as many people as possible to visit the show. Something
new to this exhibition is that the exhibition material presented
during the exhibition will be in Maltese language besides that in
English language. This will definitely help in delivering the message
clearly to visitors of all ages. The premises will be set up in the
Second World War environment in order to get the visitors to have
a closer experience of the subject period. Our primary target
audience is the young generation that of between 10 and 18 years
old. The Ministry of Education, Employment and Family has already
shown great interest in sending all the Government students to this
show which will be on the island for a stretch of four weeks.(VIEW
support letter by Ministry attached). Private schools and educational
institutions will also be invited to attend. The entrance to the
exhibition will be free of charge in order to attract a wide
audience.
This educational event can only be made possible by financial
contributions from related organizations. The costs behind this
event are substantial and we are currently looking for sponsors who
can contribute to make this noble cultural event a reality to the
Maltese society. All sponsors will be listed in all promotional
material and will also have a presence on location, both in the
entrance and exit of the venue.
