Britain 1750 – 1900
How did Britain change between the period 1750 &
1900?
There were many changes which took place in Britain between 1750 & 1900. Changes took
place in the following areas:
o Population;
o Agriculture;
o Industry;
o Working conditions;
o Transport (roads, canals, railways & the motorcar).
In your group, you are going to research one area. You will need to teach the rest of the class
about your topic. Your group will therefore need to present your findings to the rest of the class
(perhaps in the form of a presentation). This should be about 5 minutes in length. You also need
to produce a learning task, which the rest of the class will do after your presentation. The
learning task should task the class about 5minutes to complete. You will need to help the rest of
your classmates if they get stuck. Possible learning activities include:
o Wordsearch;
o Crossword;
o Heads & tails;
o Complete the sentences;
o Quiz.
You will have six lessons to complete this task:
1. Introduction to the topic, assigning groups and initial individual research;
2. Research – Boardworks PowerPoint;
3. Research and making presentations;
4. Research and making presentation;
5. Presentations and learning activities;
6. Presentations and learning activities.

o What was the Domestic system? How were products made in the
domestic system?
o What was the factory system?
o Why did factories need to be developed?
