Pre-Intermediate Unit 1: Weather
Kevin: Oh man, the weather here in London is crazy. I miss Los Angeles weather; warm,
sunny, mild, with a cool breeze from the ocean. This weather sucks! It’s always dark
and cold. I get depressed and just want to stay in bed. Where’s the sun?
Pat: Yeah, here in London it’s always dark and rainy. Sometimes it’s foggy. It always
looks gray. At least it doesn’t snow much in London. And thank God there are no
blizzards. Where I’m from in Nebraska, it’s always snowing in the winter and baking in
the summer. It’s really humid. At least London is not humid in the summer.
Kevin: True, true. There’s not much ice here, but it’s really cool and windy. Last week it
was snowing in northern England, but it didn’t snow here. I hear London is beautiful in
the spring. It’s clear, warm, and sunny. These days, though, it’s miserable. We have
another couple of months before the weather clears up. I want summer weather.
Pat: You LA people make me sick. You’re so spoiled. In Nebraska, the summers are
baking hot. It’s always boiling. You’re walking down the street and you’re just soaking in
sweat. You feel like a greasy pig. Sometimes I’ll take three cold showers just to cool
down. It’s horrible. At least in LA the heat is dry. Nebraska has hot, muggy summers. It
pisses me off.
Kevin: Yeah, I’m sure you’re right. I’ve only been to Nebraska in the spring. I’ve heard
the summers are really hot. Oh well, shall we get out of this rain and go to the pub? I
think this one here has a fireplace. We can dry off and have a coffee or two before class.
Pat: Make mine an Irish coffee. Let’s do it.
