Reynolds Recycling Honors the Outrigger Enterprises Group with
2009 Green Leaders Award
Honolulu, HI-In an effort to recognize outstanding businesses, groups and individuals in Hawaii who
are protecting and preserving our natural resources through recycling, Reynolds Recycling launched its
Annual Green Leaders Award Program on November 16, 2009.
This year’s inaugural honoree is the Outrigger Enterprises Group, which has recently hit a “green”
milestone by recycling their 1 millionth beverage container collected from their guest rooms. Since
2006, eight of the hotel chains properties have been active participants in Reynolds’ Business
Sponsorship Program, with a portion of the proceeds from their recycling going towards a charity of
Outrigger’s choice.
“We are honored to recognize the Outrigger Enterprises Group with our 2009 Green Leaders Award.
Their sustainable business practices complement our mission of Helping Hawaii Recycle, and we know
that they will continue to lead the charge to protect our natural environment and conserve our resources
through their continued recycling efforts,” stated Terry Telfer, President of Reynolds Recycling.
On November 15, 2009, the nation celebrated America Recycles Day, with millions across the country
pledging to increase their recycling both at home and at work. The Outrigger Enterprises Group has
made this their motto everyday, helping to remove over 25 tons of recyclable material from the waste
stream and keeping it out of Oahu landfills. By recycling over 14,500 pounds of aluminum alone, they
have saved over 109,000 kilowatts of electricity and conserved over 11,500 gallons of gas.
“The Outrigger Enterprises Group has raised the bar for others in the industry to adopt greener, more
sustainable practices. Since the very beginning, Outrigger management and their teams have been
committed to making recycling work, and have created a win-win situation for all involved by
directing the funds towards charitable causes,” stated Telfer.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann and Senator Brickwood Galuteria joined Outrigger President & CEO David
Carey and Reynolds Recycling President Terry Telfer for the awards presentation yesterday on the
Waikiki Boardwalk.
Reynolds Recycling is a locally owned and operated company that has been Helping Hawaii Recycle
for over 28 years. In that time, they have paid Hawaii residents over $125 million for their recyclables,
with over $2.75 million going to schools and nonprofit organizations to help them raise much needed
funds.
