5. sewer lift stations in need of repair/upgrades

areas are not necessarily precluded in the development of a landfill, but are considered
poorly suited and may require additional engineering controls to adequately protect the
environment.

10. Drainage facilities in some areas have been constructed in a piecemeal fashion over
time with little or no regard for effects on downstream drainage ways or on water quality
impacts. Consequently, there are a number of areas in the county, particularly in older
areas, which experience property flooding from relatively moderate storm events. The
potential for pollution of surface waters from runoff has also become a cause of
increasing concern.

areas are typically where water and sewer service has not been provided or in proximity

4. Problems with the mixture of uses on the mainland are related to past land use
planning decisions
5. Run-off is a concern in areas such as St. Simons Island and Colonels Island
(Georgia Ports Authority) where potential development creates large amounts of
impervious surfaces.
6. All of St. Simons Island and areas of the mainland on the urban fringe are the
greatest concern for growth threatening to surpass the availability of community
services and infrastructure.
