Ticket #236 – Cross-polar discrimination [remove it for further development over 2011 by STG]
STG24 decided to further gather information on this ticket before taking any action. STG guidance
requested by correspondence before STG25 on the 18 January 2010.
STG24 agreed that first the scenarios should be identified and the respective requirements for the next
web-meeting STG25 before drafting any specifications.
Requirement:

STG24 indicated that such simulations are mostly appropriate for radio link above clutter i.e. Line
of sight.
o
Indoor to Indoor: feasible
o
Indoor to outdoor: not feasible
o
Outdoor to outdoor:
o




Above clutter: feasible

Below clutter: not feasible
Clear sky condition and coherent transmission channel are assumed.
Could this restriction use the existing restriction of the built-in propagation model? The
SEAMCAT built-in propagation model are:
o
Free space: feasible in all cases
o
Extended Hata and Hata-SRD :
o
Spherical diffraction
o
P1546-1 and -4
o
Plugin: users responsibility to run model suited for cross-polarisation
Polarization scenario:
o
Single polarization Tx (i.e. vertical polarization or horizontal polarization)
o
Double polarization Tx (i.e. vertical polarization and horizontal polarization)
o
Single polarization Rx
o
Double polarization Rx
GUI changes:
o
Editorial: Replace “horizontal” and “vertical” by “azimuthal plan” and “vertical plane”
o
Introduce the polarization of the Tx and Rx: “single” or “dual”

Set “single” as default

Set “vertical polarization” as default

When “dual” is selected then the button “vertical” and “horizontal” are shaded
o
XPD value(cross polar discrimination)
o
Polarization antenna pattern

by default, the polarization antenna pattern is shaded

When “dual” is selected then it becomes selectable

When the Tx and Rx of a path have different polarization, both the Tx and Rx
polarization patterns is selectable.

4 Paths to consider:

(It, Vr) path (interfering link – victim link)

(It, Wr) path (interfering link)

(It, Wt) path (interfering link – victim link) (spectrum sensing only)

(Vr, Wt) path (victim link)
Proposal:

Implementation to be available for traditional and CDMA-OFDMA module

Allow cross-polarisation simulation based on the propagation model set-up
