Faculty Position in Immunology The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a faculty position in Immunology at the rank of associate or full professor. We seek candidates studying host defense mechanisms against microbial pathogens, although outstanding candidates with research interests in other areas of immunology are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD degree and have a strong record of research productivity and current extramural funding. For established investigators, additional positions for collaborative investigators will be considered. Participation in teaching medical and graduate students is expected. The Department has an active research group focused on intracellular, select agent pathogens. In addition to renovated laboratory space in the Medical Sciences Building, the Department includes a new BSL2/BSL3/ABSL3 laboratory building, the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, to be completed in June 2013. This facility will provide contiguous office, meeting, and dedicated lab space incorporating state-of-the-art biosafety and biosecurity features. Interdisciplinary interactions with basic, translational, and clinical investigators in the College of Medicine, the Center for Lung Biology and the Mitchell Cancer Institute are also available.
