Matches the objective Independent performance The objective for the lesson is for students to write a complete sentence when given a topic beginning with a capital letter and ending with a period. 1-5.1: Create written communications (for example, thank you notes) for a specific audience. These first grade students have IEP goals which require them to write complete sentences with a period and beginning with a capital letter. The students will be reminded that if they do what is expected of them they will get a treat at the end of the lesson. “Today we will be reading a book about trains and we will be writing a sentence and drawing a picture about our favorite part of the story when we are finished reading. Read the book about trains to the students. The students will then write a sentence and draw a picture about the story using correct capitalization and punctuation. Walk around among the students to check for understanding. Question them about their work. The students will be writing sentences about their favorite part of the book that we read. They will receive a treat if they behaved during the prior part of the lesson. “Today we learned how to write a sentence about our favorite part of the book on trains. “ Have the students share their sentence with their classmates. Have the students clean up, line up, and walk them back to class. The students will meet the performance criteria if they write a complete sentence about the book using correct punctuation and capitalization.
