The guest speaker is Fran SANDHAM who will be speaking on “A SOLO WALK
ACROSS AFRICA”
The next meeting will be on THURSDAY 24th APRIL 2014 at 1.30pm at WOLSEY
HALL. The guest speaker will be Nick R THOMAS who will be speaking about
“THE LIFE OF PATRICK (CALL MY BLUFF) CAMPBELL” and will include
some audience participation.
Monthly meetings will usually be held on the 4th Thursday of each Month at 1.30pm in Wolsey
Hall.
Please note that the doors to Wolsey Hall will not be opened until 1.30pm

When you attend the monthly meetings, you should bring your membership card (this year the colour is yellow), along
to book yourself in at the respective desk. You should also take it to any group meetings. The group leaders will want to
keep their own records
Visitors
A Temporary Membership Fee of £2 is charged to visitors, and a dated receipt will be given. This confers all the
advantages of Cheshunt U3A membership, including Insurance for that month only, during which time a group activity
can be joined if there is room, on production of the receipt and payment of the usual group attendance fee.
Members’ information held by Cheshunt U3A will not be disclosed to any third party

Our first trip will be on 2nd July. A Coach trip to visit ‘Victorian London’s Heroes
& Villains’ Cost is £36 which includes: 1 course Lunch with tea/coffee, our own

BOARD GAMES AFTERNOON

Following the success of the afternoon quiz group, I thought that it might be nice to
try a Board Games afternoon with tea and cake and hopefully plenty of laughter.
Later on in the year, we can have several games set up, play for a limited period of
time on each. Finish with an old fashioned game of Bingo. Please register your
interest with Mary in the Main Hall.
ENGLISH HISTORY

The group meets on 2nd Wednesday each month in the Green Dragon, Churchgate at
11.30am. We are focussing on ‘Social’ history, rather than battles, etc. Our visit on
2nd April is a tour of Hertford Castle. Later in the year, visits have been planned to a
19th century Paper Mill, Roman Baths and a Victorian School.

The Art Appreciation group visits art galleries, museums or churches to view various
aspects of art. There is currently a waiting list to join this group. Diane POPE has
taken over and is the person to contact. In view of the high interest in this group, is

Station at 9.45 am to catch the 10.09 am train to St. Margarets Station and then walk

It has now been decided to hold the Bolivia meetings every other Monday in the
upper room of the Green Dragon pub at 62 Churchgate, Cheshunt.EN8 9NF. The next
meetings will be: 14th April and 28th April, all starting at 2.00pm and finishing about
5.00pm, for which there will be a small charge. If anyone would like to play or learn
how to play, please come along and enjoy a very sociable afternoon. There is plenty
of free parking at the rear of the pub.
COMPUTER COURSE 2014

The Beginners Course is scheduled for the beginning of June (subject to change). If
interested please contact Sue Smith. The Refresher and Improvers course is now
running to the end of March.. Our computer courses are run in conjunction with
Hertford Regional College. In response to requests and ever changing technology we
are considering a new course for U3A members who might wish to learn on their own
laptops or notebooks instead of college computers. For any requests and info on

Cheshunt Free Church, Every Tuesday 9.45am - 11.15am cost £3.00 per session
Taking part in a keep fit class can be fun whatever your age or ability. Each class is
designed to help build and develop your strength, balance and flexibility and is
designed for people who find an exercise class too energetic. The group will also be
run by a fully qualified instructor whose aim is to ensure that you enjoy and have fun
whilst trying to improve your level of mobility and fitness. After approximately 60
minutes we shall break for a well earned tea or coffee, provided free of charge.
CHESHUNT and WARE CYCLE GROUP

All three of our cycling groups are being well supported. We have a moderate, easyride and a “very
easyride”. See cycling table or phone for details. The cycling group will continue to meet every
Wednesday over winter, to explore the Lea Valley Park and beyond. The group is hoping to try out
the Olympic Veladrome once it opens to the public in 2014.

runs from 10am - 11am. These sessions are run by a fully qualified instructor whose
aim is to ensure that we all have fun whilst trying to get fit. All activities are suitable

Come and join us and have a good laugh discussing our various ailments in an
informal way over a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits. This used to be known as the
Ailments Group - but we really don't sit and "moan", we sit and have a laugh about
our various aches & pains - most of which are associated with getting older! The
next meeting is Thursday 10th April, 10 – 12noon at the Green Dragon Pub, (opposite
St Mary's Church, Churchgate, Cheshunt) in the upstairs room.

Our Monday and Friday groups raised a fantastic sum of £369 for the Marie Curie.
It took half an hour at each session to call the raffle, because they were all so
generous with their donations and nearly everyone won a prize. Well done to all of
you!!

Our next walk will start at 10.00am on Tuesday 8th April from the Candlestick pub,
West End Lane, Essendon. AL9 6BA. Grid Ref 263083. It will be a 6 mile circular
walk on good paths (although there is one area that is a little boggy). There is parking
at the pub, for those wishing to eat there after the walk; otherwise parking needs to be
along the road outside. There are a number of routes from Cheshunt, i.e. through
Hammond Street and Newgate Street or via Cuffley. If anyone has difficulty in
finding the start, they can contact me on 075944 27190 for help.

We shall be meeting on Thursday 3rd April from 2 - 4pm in the Garden Room at
Wolsey Hall, as usual. Bring along your knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, tapestry,

Pilates Group meets on a THURSDAY morning 11 - 12noon, at the Cheshunt Club,
Albany Ride, Cheshunt. A friendly group with a qualified tutor, who will adapt the
exercises to your health/capabilities. Please bring an exercise mat or thick towel with
you. £3 per session paid monthly in advance. Anyone having difficulty getting from
Crossbrook Street up to the Club let me know and I can pick you up from outside the
