This project will initiate teachers and provide
training on the integration of technological
resources and tools within their teaching
practices. Collaboration strategies will be applied
to create an environment for teachers to plan
together differentiated teaching practices.
This project will seek to improve students’ oral
communication skills in junior and senior
kindergarten through the use of iPads. Training
will be offered to teachers and specialist
instructors and provide the essential skills they
need to develop different abilities in oral
communication and autonomy for the students
through Google Apps.
This project will integrate robotics and
technology in Junior and Senior kindergarten
classes and assess the impact on students’
success with regard to their personal and social
development. Autistic students will also benefit
from the project.
This project will promote the effective use of
Web-based technology and pedagogical tools to
increase students’ achievement and to
encourage the implementation of differentiated

Brief Pilot Descriptor
Developing teachers' skills in using technology
and innovative teaching practices through
collaboration, co-planning and sharing between
them is the core focus of this project. It is
anticipated that this professional learning
approach will promote the use of the
differentiated instruction and the integration of a
variety of digital resources.
This project builds on the 2011-12 work of an
evidence-based professional learning protocol
that resulted in increased teacher ability to
integrate technology into grade 9 Applied and
Academic Math. By increasing the scope of this
professional learning model, this project will
inform a scalable and sustainable professional
learning district plan.
Brings to scale “just in time”, personalized
learning that supports Math homework,
engagement and achievement.
With a focus on writing, reading and
mathematics, this project investigates the use of
technology (iPads) as an instructional aid to
increase student achievement.
This project expands the Ministry’s blended
learning initiative into the elementary panel for
Science, Math and Language Arts teachers.

6
Brief Pilot Descriptor
Through this project, teachers support each
other in a collaborative inquiry as they discover
how iPads can be used to allow students to
capture, develop and publish their learning in
creative, engaging and multi-dimensional ways in
elementary schools.
This project investigates the improvement of
student engagement and achievement when
integrating online resources with lesson plans
and assessment in Grade 10 Applied Science.
Brings to scale a collaborative working
environment and virtual learning space for device
agnostic connections to teaching and learning
resources.
The focus of this project is twofold: one is to
evaluate the Grand Erie District School Board’s 5
year initiative to integrate technology into every
classroom by measuring short term knowledge &
skills outcomes and intermediate term beliefs
and behaviour, specifically, transformed teacher
practice outcomes. Secondly, it seeks to learn
from teachers what supports they need and what
barriers they face in shifting their practice to
seeing and using technology through a
pedagogical lens (Grades 5-8, Junior and
Intermediate self-contained Special Education
classrooms and Secondary Math and Canadian
and World Studies).
This project will explore the impact of the skilful
use of tablet (iPads) and mobile technologies on
students’ cognitive learning needs in JK to Grade
8.

as transformation tools in establishing an inquirybased classroom in grade 9 and 10 science, and
its impact on student engagement, achievement
and credit retention.
Teachers are invited to apply to participate in a
collaborative inquiry learning project. The
inquiry question is framed using the Catholic
professional learning cycle (envision/plan,
act/sow, observe/nurture, reflect/discern) and
undertaken with the intent of improving
professional practice and student achievement
through the use of digital teaching resources.
Brings to scale traditional models of school
library to 21st Century Learning Commons
including implementation of e-resources, edevices, space and plant considerations and
system sustainability strategies.
Peel has made a commitment to using PM
Benchmarks from K-Grade 2 for leading indicator
data. The creation and use of an iRecord App will
facilitate the collection of data and offer
seamless integration of assessment with student
performance, ensuring that data is stored in a
single location.

Blending Engagement and
Assessment: Benefitting
Students by Bringing
Technologically Innovative
Practices to the Mathematics
Classroom
This project uses the iPad to support assessment
of, as and for learning through the collection and
triangulation of data. The project will create an
iPad assessment app. The app will allow teachers
to capture evidence of student data from a
variety of sources (observations, conversations
and products).
This project allows teachers to incorporate
handheld devices into mathematics instructional
strategies (three-part lesson, Bansho, Gallery
walk etc..) and facilitate the collaboration
inherent in these strategies through the sharing
of 4-5 handheld devices in each class. Providing
students with the tools to differentiate learning
and to interpret, represent and communicate
with their peers and share possible solutions and
strategies will improve student engagement, selfefficacy and the ability to solve problems.
This project builds on the 2011-2012 focus and
builds capacity for personal technology use for
students (specifically iPads and iPods) in the
classroom to support learning. This will be
achieved by making technology available to
teachers and identifying the support they require
to feel confident in using these devices for
classroom instruction.
This project is informed and builds on the Near
North 2011-2012 Pilot for System Learning. It
incorporates a wider stratum of assessment
strategies from grades 7 to 10. Teachers will be
supported as they utilize and/or develop a broad
range of responses to the results of student
assessment FOR learning data.

This project investigates the role of digital
resources (such as Premier Tools, Clicker 5) and
applications on mobile digital devices that are
integrated into classrooms through a job
embedded model, then students will become
more engaged due to increased independence.
This project supports grade 8 teachers in a
meaningful collaboration about how to
effectively utilize tablet technology in the
classroom and build student conceptual
understanding for becoming increasingly selfdetermined, critical thinkers.
Connecting with the philosophies of Education
for All and Learning for All, this project will
develop teacher capacity for the effective use of
assistive technologies, specifically iPads and
iPods, for students with learning disabilities.
As an extension of our Minds on Media from last
year, the focus is on teachers as leaders in their
classrooms. A core of teachers across the District
are currently using innovative teaching practices
embedding technology in the classroom. This
pilot will build teacher capacity by using a Minds
on Media professional learning cycle at regional
forums. Teachers will explore various
technologies and the successes/challenges of
implementation in classrooms. The goal will be
to have a hub of expertise in every region to
further support job-embedded learning.

AT and it's Impact on Students
Working Towards the
Provincial Standard
The goals of this project are to build student and
teacher capacity regarding the best practice for
the integration of assistive technology into the
curriculum through collaborative inquiry.
Increasing student achievement in literacy at the
grade 5 and 6 levels using assistive technologies
and creating a network of Program Resource
teachers and classroom teachers who have
developed expertise in the integration of
assistive technology at their schools are targeted
goals.
This project involves embedding technology in an
early learning environment. A two pronged
approach focussing on teachers and students
includes: for teachers using technology as a tool
to document student learning and communicate
the learning to all stakeholders; and, for students
using technology to increase engagement in
inquiry and play-based activities, increase
interest and participation in social situations and
increase verbal fluency.
This project builds capacity for the effective daily
use of the provincial Learning Management
System (LMS) among teachers and
administrators.
