Abingdon Celebrates First Thursdays
Abingdon, Virginia (August, 2012) – The William King Museum: Center for Art and Cultural
Heritage is excited to announce that it will be participating in a brand new event from Abingdon’s art
organizations. First Thursdays will bring gallery-goers together one night a month and will begin on
Thursday, September 6 at 5 p.m. Park your vehicle at Abingdon’s Municipal lot and catch a trolley to eight
different locations around town that are celebrating the opening of a new exhibition or gallery space.
The schedule for the First Thursday in September is as follows:
5-6 p.m.: Zazzy’z Coffee Roasters at 380 East Main Street
Opening Reception for Pamela Hagy and Catherine Vaughn-Keen
5-7p.m.: Anthony's Desserts at 401 East Main Street
Opening Reception for Pamela Hagy and Catherine Vaughn-Keen
5-8 p.m.: Wolf Hills Brewing Co. at 320 Park Street
Opening Reception for Unhinged: New Works by Lindsey Holderfield
5-8 p.m.: The Gallery @ Barr Photographics at 152 East Main Street
OPEN GALLERY featuring an exhibit from Dr. Kenneth Bridle entitled “Interpretations In
Watercolor”
6-8 p.m.: William King Museum at 415 Academy Drive
Opening Reception for Reflections of Self, Curated by Mary Malony, Johnson City, TN
6-9 p.m.: Gallery Mallory at 112 East Main Street
GRAND OPENING! Join Polly Mallory in her new exhibition space!
6-8 p.m.: Secret Garden Gallery and Custom Framing at 416 West Main Street
OPEN STUDIO with fine art by Catherine Walden
7-9 p.m.: Arts Depot at 314 Depot Square
OPEN HOUSE! See works by watercolorist Cheng Fen Yeh and Depot members Pat Lehmkuhl,
Aaron Brooks Wolters, Sheryl Daniels, and Catherine Walden.
8-10 p.m.: House on Main at 231 West Main Street

William King Museum is located at 415 Academy Drive, off West Main Street or Russell Road, in Abingdon.
The Museum features five exhibition galleries, resident artist studios, a museum store and outdoor sculpture garden.
Educational programs in the visual arts are offered year-round for both children and adults, and school audiences are
served by in-house and outreach programs. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the William King
Museum is a partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and a member of the Virginia Association of Museums and
is funded in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
