ePOM Tips 3rd Quarter, 2008 RECENT CHANGES/ADDITIONS: 1. The DNR order has been reactivated electronically. However, if a resident enters the DNR order, an attending will need to enter a second one to facilitate the co-signature requirement for DNR orders. 2. The PACS icon has been added to your main menu. 3. When entering electronic prescriptions, the options for discharge dispositions has been shortened and you can now see the “ROUTINE HOME/SELF CARE” option without scrolling. 4. Recent enhancements include: a. The ability is now available to enter the date/time/priority/series information on an order as soon as you choose it, and all from one screen. b. You can now see the time that the first dose of a med will be given, based on pharmacy’s standard administration times. If you want the first dose to be now, continue to enter that instruction in the instruction (INST) box. c. When building your patient rounding list in PATIENT CARE MANAGER (PCM), you can now cover by location. For PT patient locations, type the floor number (i.e.2W); for Children’s, type TCH; for Women’s, type WNP first. Additionally, you can now remove patients from your list when you cover by provider or provider group. 5. Many new nursing orders have been added this quarter. A few examples are: DC foley specific feeding tube types vs. a single tube placement order gradual progressive ambulation vag exam obtain length/height may bathe/shower We hope this will help you to not have to use the NURSING MISC. order near as much. Please let us know if you would like any other nursing orders added. HOW TO’S: 1. How to order insulin sliding scales……there are a few templates that you can use in the ADMIN CRITERIA option when ordering insulin. There are blank dose templates available, as well as templates for ordering common dosages. (see screen shots for steps) Choose the insulin desired, and from the common order strings, choose the one for SS orders. Click the down arrow in the ADMINISTRATION CRITERIA field, then click on the template desired. After choosing the scale, be sure to press F7 to take you to the beginning of the template. 2. How to order a non-formulary electronic prescription………..From the current med list in the electronic RX screens, click on the “new prescription” pencil then click on the gray UNDEFINED MED button. You can then free text the prescription information. REMINDERS: 1. During the electronic transfer process, you won’t be able to change order details unless you make the changes prior to clicking on the TRANSFER button or after you have submitted the transfer orders. Also, when you do not select a diet during transfer, the current diet gets discontinued, so please add a new diet order to your transfer orders. 2. Pharmacy asked us to remind you to not use unapproved abbreviations in your free text medication directions or instructions. Abbreviations such as “U” for units and “QD” for daily are unapproved. Please spell out units and spell out daily or every day. Have you had a chance to meet your service’s ePOM analyst?
