Ramsay Research and Teaching Fund – Expression of Interest (EOI) 2015 EOI Guidelines – 2015 The Ramsay Research and Teaching Fund has provided more than $9m over the last 16 years to support research and teaching projects, salary support and scholarships. The Ramsay Research & Teaching Committee oversees the distribution of the Ramsay Research & Teaching Fund and through them it is possible to enhance the quality of health care at the RNSH campus. Applications are to be completed using the associated RRTC EOI Application Form Due: 9.00am 13th April, 2015 Kolling Matrix: The Kolling Institute is a partnership between the Northern Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney’s, Sydney Medical School. This partnership brings together researchers from across all the campuses of the NSLHD and academic and research staff from the Northern Clinical School. What this means is that we have a unique mix of scientists, academics, clinical staff, community health workers and educators all working together to find answers that will improve the health of Australians. The Kolling Institute’s Research Office currently provides support for researchers and their teams across each of the NSLHD Hospitals in the areas of research development & performance, governance & compliance, facility management and business support including finance, IT and HR. With the recommendation of the Kolling’s Strategic Research & Performance Committee and approval from the Kolling Executive Committee, the Research Office manages the development and implementation of internal research support programs for the translation of discovery into reality. The Kolling Matrix identifies the Themes (in red) that describes different ways patients and their families will interact with each of the NSLHD campuses and the D’s (in blue) describe the translational pathway that includes discovering new mechanisms, diagnostics, devices and therapeutics; developing optimal clinical practice; delivering healthy populations and efficient health services and disseminating the information that changes practice and keeps the community informed about innovations that improve their healthcare. Knowledge Discovery Projects (Biomedical Research): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include pure or basic research studies, preclinical or animal studies, hypothesis driven research of high quality design that must investigate a question/s generated from patient or health provider experience in a clinical setting. 2. Knowledge Development Projects (Clinical Research): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include controlled observational studies and pilot clinical trials of therapies/devices with the aim to improve health outcomes for patients in the RNSH community. 3. Knowledge Delivery Projects (Health Service Research): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include those designed to assess the appropriateness and efficiency of standard clinical practice and care. Examples of projects to be assessed in this category include Phase 3 and 4 clinical trials of therapies/devices, observational studies and clinical standards of care survey research. 4. Knowledge Dissemination Projects (Education Research): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include those designed to assess methods of communication and education of health care workers, patients and their carers for implementing new standards of care, new therapeutics and/or devices and changes to health service management protocols and procedures. 5. Knowledge Translation Projects (Implementation Research): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include those designed to deliver recommended care to the right patient at the right time in the RNSH community. The project team must be multi-disciplinary and be introducing changes to services based on conclusions of evidence based research. 6. Knowledge Transfer & Adoption Projects (Research in Practice): The types of projects to be considered for funding in this category will include those designed to improve the health of patients beyond the RNSH community. Applicants must describe how demonstrated improvements to service or standards of care locally will be extended to influence care at a national and international level. The project must be led by a RNSH based Chief Investigator. Page 2 February 12, 2016 Ramsay Research and Teaching Fund – Expression of Interest (EOI) 2015 Eligibility Criteria: Applications must satisfy the following criteria to be considered for an award; 1. Projects must be led by the Chief Investigator based at the Royal North Shore Hospital campus. 2. Listed Chief Investigators must have current membership to the Kolling Institute. 3. The submitted project must align with one of the Research Project Categories and within the Kolling Matrix (details above). 4. Evidence that a proportion of leveraged funds are available at the start of the project to enable project completion must be provided. 5. Access and/or approval to use a Northern Sydney Local Health District cost centre to administer any awarded funds. Assessment Criteria: Applications that satisfy the above eligibility will be assessed in relation to the following criteria: 1. The quality, relevancy and appropriateness of the research question, 2. Innovation described in the project plan, 3. Impact of the research outcomes on improving the health of our patients and their families; and 4. The breadth of disciplines involved in the project and the project team. Budget and Timeline: The RRTC have not allocated a specific level of funding for each project and will instead consider how best to support those projects selected. This may include supporting the project for more than 1 year. Assessment: The Review Committee will review the EOI’s and provide recommendations to the RRTC in May, 2015. All applicants will be informed of the decision by June 2015 for project commencement in July 2015. Conditions of this Award: Access and/or approval to use a Northern Sydney Local Health District cost centre to administer any awarded funds. Funds will be allocated for a period of 1 year only. A report is required annually. The RRTC reserves the right to meet with the applicants and their teams to further develop their applications. Letter of Support from your Head of Department for the application which include the cost centre number approved for administering the funds Proof of enrolment in Higher Degree (where applicable) The final document should be named CISurname_FirstInitial_RRTF_2015.
