Scientific Interest (SSSIs).This volume describes in detail the scientific importance of sites that were
selected for the Geological Conservation Review (GCR) for their importance in understanding
mineralogy and mineral-forming processes in Great Britain. The Nenthead site is one of several such
sites within the Northern Pennines. A large and invaluable work of reference, but not a cheap pocket
money book!

THE definitive work on understanding the area’s geology, mineral deposits and mining at the
time of its writing. The book has long been a ‘classic’ work of geological literature. Although a serious
geological text, it contains much that is accessible to the interested reader without a detailed geological

area. Nowout of print, but well worth obtaining via a library.

An attractively produced field guide to places of geological interest across NE England.
Included are several outings to the Northern Pennines, written by experts with a long
working relationship within the area. Written for anyone interested in learning more about
our local rocks and landscapes.

A comprehensive introduction to all aspects of the geology of the region, with excellent
chapters on the rocks of the Pennines and the mineral deposits. A serious geological text,
but readily accessible and enjoyable to anyone with some basic appreciation of geology.

A descriptive, and very richly illustrated, celebration of the huge variety of beautiful and rare
minerals for which the area is world famous. Includes clear explanations of the local geology, mineral
deposits, mines and significant collectors of those minerals. Written for a readership without any
detailed training in geology.
