2. Job Purpose:
 To be responsible for the successful delivery of WECIL’s peer
support project maximising peer support opportunities and
ensuring disabled people are sufficiently equipped to support each
other, develop social networks and to maximise their influence and
potential.
 Ensuring that WECIL deliver the peer support project in-line with the
agreed Big Lottery Funding Bid, including monitoring and meeting
project outcomes.
 Support the development and transition of the service during the
final year of funding, looking forward to a new way of delivering,
which is embedded within WECIL.

3. Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Peer Support Volunteer (PSV) Recruitment and Development
 Advertise and promote peer support volunteering opportunities in
order to recruit more disabled people to the project
 Meet potential PSV and establish their needs and what they have to
offer
 Ensure appropriate checks are undertaken prior to recruitment (i.e.
references and DBS)
 Establish volunteer agreements at the start of the volunteering
relationship, in line WECIL’s Volunteering Policy
 Where appropriate signpost PSV to other services
 Advertise, promote and facilitate peer support events (including five
monthly drop-ins across the city, city wide trips, training sessions
and workshops)
 Support disabled people to develop their social network, skills and
increase their confidence by offering a wide range of peer support
opportunities and social activities
 Identify skills and experience of PSV in order to develop their
strengths
 Facilitate a comprehensive induction process for PSV
 Facilitate an ongoing training and development programme for
disabled people and for the cohort of PSV using a variety of
methods
 Support PSV to gain accreditation, recognition, awards etc as a
result of supporting their peers
Take Up of Services
 Support PSV to inform and introduce their peers to services,
ensuring increased numbers of disabled people receive
independent living support
Consultation
 Facilitate a range of engagement and consultation opportunities to
ensure disabled people have increased influence over local service
provision and barriers are reduced (minimum 10 formal
consultations a year with at least 20% resulting in reduced barriers
for disabled people)
Administration and Finance
 Gather data and maintain accurate and up to date records
(including peer support contact database) and generate

performance reports. Prepare information required for monitoring
and evaluation
 Ensure that spending remains within budgetary limits. Monitor and
review budgets monthly.
 Keep up to date with legislation and policy relating to peer support
and volunteering and make appropriate
recommendations/modifications to accommodate changes
Publicity
 Produce, maintain and distribute a supply of varied publicity
materials, ensuring the project is well publicised
 Produce the WECIL newsletter, ensuring Peer Support activities and
good news stories are featured in each edition.
4. Relationships
 Develop and maintain relationships with peer support volunteers
and peer support clients, WECIL colleagues, external agencies, and
the Big Lottery
 Network with relevant agencies, represent WECIL at meetings as
required and develop useful working contacts
 Maintain regular contact with PSV to ensure both parties are
benefiting and volunteers are retained
 Support PSV to engage with the organisation and have a voice
 Ensure PSV are receiving appropriate supervision
5. Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities:
 Be responsible for own safety and for carrying out initial risk
assessments as required for home visits /volunteer activities etc.
 Identify any operational risks and comply with risk management
procedures
 Observe WECIL’s Code of Conduct at all times and advise any
suspected breaches to Line Manager
 Observe health and safety procedures in the workplace to ensure
personal safety and to safeguard the interests and safety of
colleagues, customers and visitors

General
 Uphold WECIL’s Equal Opportunities Policies and ensure effective
implementation in all relevant aspects of service delivery and
staffing;
 Act at all times within WECIL’s Rules, Policies, Procedures, Standing
Orders and Financial Regulations and any other statutory
requirements ;
 To work to the WECIL Charter and support other staff members to
do so.
 To undertake training as required;
 To attend staff and team meetings as required;
 Undertake other duties and responsibilities as appropriate since all
staff are expected to work flexibly within their skill level to respond
to changing priorities and make sure that customer needs and
business objectives are met.

Hours
 The post holder may be required to work flexible hours on
occasion, including evenings and weekends if necessary

9. Education/Qualification Standard:
 Formal qualifications are not essential but a very good standard of
written English and mathematics is required.
10. Knowledge/ Experience Required For Role:

Working with disabled people
 Significant experience of working with disabled people
 An understanding of inclusion and the need to treat people from all
backgrounds with dignity
Managing and developing volunteers
 Experience of working with and supporting volunteers

 Experience of delivering a project, to meet defined outcomes
 A desire to evaluate and improve service delivery through
consultation with service users and staff
Delivery of service
 Experience of delivering services or activities for disabled people
 A can do attitude that enables volunteers, stakeholders and the
project to achieve the best outcome possible
 An understanding of a person centred approach and its impact on
service quality
 Experience of working in partnership with service users or
stakeholders to develop and deliver services or activities
Planning and Preparation
 Excellent IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
 Able to manage own administration
 Ability to plan and prioritise workload and allocate tasks
Communication
 Experience of building positive working relationships with
volunteers, funders, staff, partner organisations
 Good communication skills both verbal and written, with a range of
audience
Data management
 Experience of reporting, measuring outcomes against quantitative
and qualitative targets
 Experience of managing data including inputting data and use of
databases
Promotion
 Experience of promoting and advertising services/ activities
 Ability to actively promote the PS project and the wider WECIL brand
Finance
 Experience of managing or monitoring a budget; reviewing
activities to ensure that spend remains on track.
Other
 Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and reporting
 Ability to travel around the West of England area
