J2E – Recording their speech to support their writing, dropping audio hotspots into their
digital pages for audience playback. This is ‘cloud’ based, therefore the learners’ work
will move with the pupils and can be accessed from any location with an internet
connection.
Speaking
Garageband (Mac, iPad), Audacity (Windows/Mac), Voice Recorder (iPad, iPod
Touch) – To record learners’ talk for group collaboration and sharing ideas within the
classroom and/or for teacher assessment purposes.

iFiles (iPad/iPod Touch) – Assessment files can be generated within a Zimbra briefcase
and transferred to these folders via WebDav. Audio recordings can be captured directly
from the device through the iFiles App.
Book Creator (iPad) - Teachers and learners can generate an ePub/iBook where each
page can contain an audio file (hotspot) captured directly from the App. A class book of
audio recordings of the pupils talking about their learning can then be exported/shared to
iBooks (the professional book reader on Apple mobile decives) and kept for evidence.
These can also be played on PC or Mac through the Google Chrome Web Browser
when the Readium plugin has been downloaded (Please refer to Amdro for instruction.)

MS Powerpoint (Windows Office Suite, Office for Mac) Keynote (Mac or iPad) –
Creating a sequence of slides to share their class or home learning. Learners can utilise
text and animation tools to highlight important text, create custom animations and
embed a variety of media (image, video, audio). This will stimulate ‘talk’ and give the
learner an impetus to present their learning in a sequence of key explanatory points.
J2E – Look beyond the page and use this cloud-based software not simply as a word
processor, but to enhance the learners’ presentation skills. Insert hyperlinks, audio
recordings, images – augmenting them or turning them into solvable jigsaw puzzles , and
much more. J2E can be easily adopted as a presenter tool to sequence the learners’
talk and to involve or engage the listener.
Book Creator (App Store) – Pupils can present or share their learning through ‘Apple
TV’ or ‘Reflector App’ by mirroring their iPad to the display at the front of the classroom.
They can talk through the contents of the iBook/ePub, which could contain an
independent or group project, they have created.
Explain Everything- By selecting the record feature in this powerful app, the pupils can
bring their explanations to life. Explain Everything is a screencasting, and interactive
whiteboard tool for your iPad that lets you annotate, animate, narrate using the available
tools, which include:
drawing in any color, adding shapes, adding text, and using a laser pointer,
rotating/scaling/moving onscreen elements and much more
When pupils are trying to explain what they have learnt and how they have arrived at
their conclusions they can piece together a sequence of slides that can include texts,
digital drawings, pictures and audio recordings to support onscreen actions.

These apps can be used for reciprocal learning skills. Learners can explain the
processes they have undertaken by orally recording their thought processes as they
write. The apps will record any onscreen edits and the accompanying audio. These can
then be used as tutoring videos to share their understanding.

Popplet (App Store and Web-App) – To create ‘synonym mindminds’ using this
excellent minmapping application. The children can ‘branch-off’ various synonyms
around a word that is regularly overused or ‘too colloquial’ in their talk. The pupils
should refer to dictionaries and/or thesauruses to populate their work; or use digital
vocabulary aids/tools such as Dictionary.com too (App Store and Web-App). These
popplets can then be used as talk frames to guide their formal talk, so that this
vocabulary is embedded when the pupils are presented with formal situations.
Speech Cards Professional (App Store – iPad, iPod Touch):- This is a customizable
flashcards app that can be used to teach children vocabulary, articulation skills, first
words, categories, and much more. The text, pictures and audio can be customized to
suit the needs of the children. The children can get immediate feedback by recording
and then listening to their own voice.
Morfo/iFunFace: Learners can bring still images of faces to life by creating voiceovers.
The app automatically animates the face. This can make improving their oracy skills
more fun.

Puppet Pals – Learners can create 2D animations using this iPad app. They can import
backgrounds, import and crop onscreen characters and animate them with finger
gestures, whilst speaking in the role of the characters. All audio and onscreen
movements are recorded and can be exported to the devices’ camera roll. Once the
video files are saved in the camera roll they can be shared with other apps where video
elements can be embedded.
Toontastic – This app is similar app to Puppet Pals. Toontastic guides the children
through creating a storyboard with scenes and characters that they can animate. The
children can add dialogue as they record their onscreen movements each scene and
then have the option of a wide range of classical tracks to add moods to their videoes!
They can draw their own backgrounds or use one of the default scenes. The app comes
with a small bank of characters / puppets but expect to dip into your pockets if you want
to add to your toybox! This is a super app for developing story planning, but you must be
mindful to ignore some American terminology for elements of the plot.
Quizzam! (App Store - iPad/iPod Touch) - Quizzam! makes giving quizzes in the
classroom fast and fun. The flexible, easy-to-use buzz-in app for classrooms lets
teachers and students use iPad, or iPod touch devices in a group setting. This turns
teaching, reviewing, and testing into a game that keeps students engaged in their
learning. Create a virtual passcode-protected Classroom, then choose between buzz in
or multiple
choice questions. The app identifies which students answer correctly and
sorts by speed of response. This app can be used to test pupils’ auditory skills following
a presentation, a reading of a shared material or response to a film.
Survey Monkey (Web-App) – This is a free Web-App that teachers can sign-up for. It
allows the teacher to create surveys that their pupils can respond to within the
classroom. This can be utilized in a plenary session or in response to a presentation,
text or video. There are 15 question types that can include ‘skip logic’, where the next
question can be skipped according to the response of the pupil. It is a good way to
assess pupils’ listening skills or understanding of a task.
Nearpod (App Store - iPad/iPod Touch) - Bring the classroom to life with interactive
mobile presentations that teachers create and customize themselves. And it’s free!
Teachers can create enriched multimedia presentations with interactive features. These
interactive features allow the pupils participating in the session to submit their responses
on the mobile devices, providing the teacher with instant measurable feedback or
assessment of results on an individual or aggregate basis.

Mr Thorne's Matching Pairs is educational and fun. 99 games of
randomly assorted cards based on the order of teaching letters

onto digraphs and trigraphs such as 'sh' and 'igh'. Finally the
spellings become more challenging with games focussing on the
/or/ sound in 'talk' and the 'sh' sound in 'ocean'.

independently, but all 5 can be purchased in this. Twinkl phonics App is
designed to support children in developing some of the key skills
taught in Phases 1-5 of the DfES Letters and Sounds Document.
Activities are presented in a fun, child friendly way (with
lovely twinkl artwork) and covers the following:

and names of each letter of the alphabet
- Letter formation
Blending sounds in CVC words
- The graphemes taught in phases 2-3

-It allows the children use the text-to-speech options to have their
writing read aloud to them.
-It uses the app to support independent writing, using the word
predictor to suggest the next words that children might write.
-Spelling / homophone / confusable word checkers help children with
the correct spellings in their writing.
-Built-in dictionaries and picture dictionaries are also available for
support.

content from the eBook for Wales Service. This allows users to loan eBooks as they would from
any public library. The ePub will sit on your device for the specified loan period and will then be
removed.
Marvin for iOS (App Store – iPad, iPod Touch): - Marvin is an eBook reader with a
host of extra features. It ‘reads’ the book with you and can locate characters in the
book, show where they first appeared in the text and even build summaries. You can
pin websites, videos and articles to the book you are reading. This certainly has a lot of
potential for KS2 pupils and it has for dyslexia, such as bottom-heavy fonts, warmth and
tint effects, and options to customise the text to suit the individual reader.

based on class projects. When the pupils create them they can be shared with other
pupils as class reading materials.
Reading short extracts from websites on any browser can be achieved on any Web
Browser. However, with Rabblebrowser App (App Store – iPad, iPod Touch) or
Nearpod (App Store – iPad, iPod Touch) the teacher is in control of what content to
share with the users in the class so that the pupils’ reading is more focused and they
cannot click on links that navigate away from the information pertaining to the main
reading skill/learning objective.
