09:00 Aug. 31th, 2010 Typhoon NAMTHEUN Press Release from Central Emergency Operating Center Vice-Premier Visited the Central Emergency Operating Center and Hosted the 2 nd Progress Report Under the effect of outer circulation in typhoon Namtheum located at the northern sea area of Taiwan, strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected in alerting areas including areas north of Miaoli; the cumulative rainfall in Tsuzihu in Beitou is 336 mm as of now. Meanwhile, the 6th typhoon Lionrock is now located at sea areas close to Dongsha Island and proceeding east to the direction of Hengchun peninsula; the outer circulation will keep influencing the weather in Taiwan as a result of interactions between two typhoons. Vice Premier of Executive Yuan is highly care about the preparation works in all areas and had visited the CEOC at 07:30 on August 31st to host the 2nd progress report. Vice Premier instructed as followed: the Central Weather Bureau shall keep monitoring the status and potential effect of the incoming typhoon, and referencing broadcasting information from other countries simultaneously to analyze and predict the typhoon traveling route and estimated rainfall for the reference of administering preventive evacuation; the Agricultural Council shall keep monitor the quake lakes upstream of Qishan river and Taimali river in order to alert all affected townships and villages in advance; the National Police Agency and National Park Headquarters shall obtain contact with 820 mountain climbing persons and teams that have not yet been connected and suggest them to leave the mountain areas. Even though there is no information regarding damage related to the incoming typhoon or updated alerts regarding flooded area, flooded rivers, and mud-slide, all local governments shall still keep in close contact with the central government and shall keep on high alert in order to be able to actively respond and support all emergency response actions. The director of CEOC Mr. Chiang instructed on the progress report that the National Fire Agency (NFA) should update the most updated school and office information on the Namtheum typhoon webpage on the NFA website for all resident to browse. The Central Weather Bureau predicted that the estimated rainfall in mountain area is 300-500 mm and the rainfall in land area is 200-400 mm and will keep monitoring the damages might resulted from loosened hill side and mudslide due to heavy rainfall. National Fire Agency shall also keep contact with selected counties and cities and run mobile test on radio to ensure the communication amongst are operating normally during typhoon affecting time.
