The eye of typhoon Meranti has entered Fujian. Land warning
has been lifted
The eye of typhoon Meranti has entered Fujian today at 4 am, and
continue to move north, its intensity will also gradually weakened. Central
Weather Bureau has lifted the land warning at 08:30 am. Currently besides
parts of the road are collapsed, no casualties occurred. Affected by the
external circulation, central and southern Taiwan and Penghu are still
possible to have local torrential rain. Chen, the vice president of the
Executive Yuan concerned about preparedness for disaster contingency
situation, and once again came to the Central Emergency Operation Center
and participate in the 3rd work report meeting at 8 am today, all ministries
and local government is requested to be strictly precautious to the
following-up rainfall impact and suggested as the followings:
1. Currently total 919 people in evacuation of 7 townships have been placed
in eight shelters with total of 650 people. The evacuation group is
requested to confirm the weather, traffic and the condition and the safety
of the original living place, and then notify the local government and the
Department of Defense to arrange vehicles to shuttle people to return
home.
2. Ministry of Economic Affairs and Local Government are requested to
confirm the situation of low-lying areas around the southwestern coast, if
no water flooding, the originally prepared water-pump will be withdrawn
to its original place.
3. Although the typhoon gradually moves toward north, it is still needed to
pay attention to flood and landslides. The Ministry of Transportation and
Communications is requested to continue monitoring the river water and
upstream rainfall conditions. As for 7 blocked and controlled road
sections, as soon as weather conditions allows, will be repaired
immediately, and to be reopened as soon as possible.
4. The Council of Agriculture is requested to keep tracking the 16 red and
20 yellow mudflow and landslides riverside warning released, if there is
no more threatening situation, please inform the information to the
relevant units.
Central Emergency Operation Center called that the cumulative rainfall
of the current typhoon has made the soil water content in Taitung area to be
saturated, please pay special attention to land slope disaster prevention and
rescue personnel for one’s own safety, and also requested the public to avoid
any activities to the mountain.
