WATER WITHDRAWAL BILLS
CALL FOR HEARINGS ON THESE QUESTIONABLE WATER WITHDRAWAL BILLS THAT
LOOK GOOD ON THE SURFACE BUT DO NOT ADDRESS KEY ISSUES
The Water Withdrawal Permitting bills A5318A and S3798 do not address key issues relating to highvolume hydraulic fracturing or how to equitably allocate water among competing water users. The
Citizens Coalition To Protect NY and the Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club calling for hearings on the
proposed legislation to address these and other issues.
Further proof that these bills allow way too much latitude is that there has been NO organized opposition
from the oil and gas industry.
The bills would require that, once DEC adopts regulations, all persons that operate or propose to operate
a water withdrawal system with a capacity equal to or greater than the "threshold volume" of 100,000
gallons per day obtain a permit from DEC,
