SPRING IS FINALLY HERE AND LAUNCH IS
ABOUT 5 WEEKS AWAY. PLEASE BE CAREFUL
WHILE PREPARING YOUR BOATS FOR THE BIG
DAY AND REMEMBER, SAFETY FIRST.
Spring is just around the corner!
First I would like to thank everyone who attended
this year’s GLSBC Bowling Night that was held on
Saturday, February 28th. We filled the lanes to
capacity and had a good group of non-bowlers
there in support as well. A special thanks to “DJ”
and “Lucky Strike” Ron Lovasz for selling tickets
and for providing the dancing music at Seaway
Boat Club after bowling. A special thanks to
“50/50” Linda Armatis for selling tickets all night.
Thanks to Stone Pizza for being there with the
wonderful food. A special recognition goes to
Chuck Kato and Mary, who were the first “High
Game” winners, they donated their winnings of a
pack of Peanut M&M’s and pack of Skittles back to
the club, WOW! Congratulations to Greg Tackett
for bowling the only 300 game of the night earning
admiration and two bags of Peanut M&M’s.
Now for the Dock Information:
Check your jack stands as the weather changes as
the ground thaws. An early review of your assigned
well and surrounding area will most certainly assist
in the preparation for any maintenance that YOU
need to do this spring. I know that it takes time to
get the boat ready but everyone must make sure that
their assigned well is also ready. Take a look at
your uprights, electric and water supply in addition
to the surrounding area. Simply put, you are
responsible for the maintenance and up-keep of
your well and surrounding area, this includes the
uprights and all of the dock and post painting. The
club supplies the uprights and the paint but not the
labor, bolts or paint brushes. The wood for new
uprights will be placed on the side of the small
garage. The paint is located in the red paint storage
container, located behind the white vinyl fence next
to the small garage.
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
Hello everyone! Could Spring be on the way?
Keep the faith and it’ll be here soon (I hope!).
I’d like to start out by mentioning what a
GREAT time our Commodore’s Ball was!
Everything was so beautiful and I’d like to give
props to all who were involved. The hall was
gorgeous, the masks were a great touch and
the band was absolutely fantastic! Another
great GLSBC party down on the books!
Now on to some business, I would like to
extend my thanks to all of the people that
attended the Super Bowl Party. It was my first
event as your Entertainment Chairman and it
was a fun night. My thanks to all who
participated in one way or another, by
attending, helping out or bringing a dish, we
truly appreciated everything! Congratulations
to lucky P/C Larry Peter on winning the flat
screen TV raffle!
Looking ahead, can you believe Launch really
isn’t that far off? I am in the planning stages
now for the luncheon that will be served. As
usual, I’ll need the help of the GLSBC ladies in
the kitchen. Contact me for more information.
Well my wife Patty and I are looking forward to
the boats going in, the warm weather and lots
of fun times with our GLSBC friends! As
always don’t hesitate to contact me with your
comments, suggestions or questions. My cell
number is 313-670-1582.
Tom Kovach, Entertainment Chairman
Please know that all dock painting must
be complete prior to the boats going in the
water.
If you notice any problems with the water or
electric, please let me know and I will make sure
that it gets some attention.
2
or third, an enhanced driver’s license issued at the
Sec. of State - cost $45. For all three options I will
have more information in the clubhouse on how to
acquire one.
One last item, your old shrink wrap; wrap it up as
tight as possible, use the old webbing and tie it up
into as small of a bundle as possible. Do not put it
in the dumpster but behind the dumpster, in
between the dumpster and fence. This area is for
shrink wrap only, not old poly tarps, canvas tarps or
wooden supports, ONLY SHRINK WRAP. We
have a company that comes up from Ohio and
recycles the shrink wrap.
Yes, finally I’m done, I know BLAH-BLAH-BLAHuntil the next Channel Marker!

Hello to all the members of GLSBC and to all the
ships at sea!! Spring has finally arrived! (maybekinda-well darn it the calendar says the 20th of
March Spring begins, so it has to be here finally!!)
OK now with that out of the way (insert trumpet
fanfare) what everyone has been anxiously waiting
for- DATES- and not the ones you eat! I mean
actual dates that members can put in their calendar
and schedule vacation around. So here they are:
May 17th Blessing of the Fleet
nd
P.S.
If you would like to donate
treats or time please call.
th
May 22 thru 24 GLSBC Poker Run
June 12th thru 14th Smuggler’s Rendezvous
July 10th thru 12th Holiday Harbour
Rendezvous
August 14th thru 16th “Secret” to be
announced at a later date
Labor Day weekend/ still in discussion
Now before the mad rush begins and panic sweeps
the club - sign up sheets and times will be in the
club house on the weekend that we drop, or I mean
splash, no not that either - how about - gently set
the boats upon the water, yea, that sounds better.
Also one more note, as of June 1st to go to Canada
you must have a passport. Whether by land or by
sea - now there are 3 ways to acquire one. First
there’s the original passport, second there’s the
passport card, both of these are good for 10 years
Hello everyone, this is Richard Fater formerly director
of Entertainment. This article is about our Easter Egg
hunt at GLSBC. The event will be Palm Sunday (April
5th) at 2 O’clock. Everyone should bring a basket for the
kids to gather their eggs. We will have some paper bags
for those who do not have a basket to bring. Our flyer
3
asks for help and donations. The problem we’ve had in
the past is that a lot of people donate, but bring too much
of one thing and not enough of the other. To solve that
problem I have a list of things that will help make sure
that doesn’t happen this year. Please call Rich or
Stephanie @ (734) 284-9665 or E-mail
rfater@sbcglobal.net and we can let you know what
anyone can do or donate to help. This event has gotten to
be very nice. It caters to the kids. There will be a special
visitor for them (Peter the Rabbit). It really is nice to see
the kids enjoying the day planned just for them. We look
forward to Sunday and hearing from you.
