As a member of my school I have promised to: Not throw Litter! Help keep my school clean and tidy Help keep Tipton tidy Have respect for my local environment Recycle as much of my waste at home and at school as possible Compost all my fruit waste Recycle all my classroom paper Remember the Three R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Remember to ‘Turn Of After Use’ During my school day I will try to be active During my school day I will eat healthy During my school day I will act responsible SCHOOL NAME Environmental Action Plan What We Do Already We have paper recycling boxes in each class, staffroom, ICT and photocopying room. CRV have supplied us with these bins and collect our paper every fortnight. The bins only include paper we cannot re-use in school. We have recycling boxes in every class, staffroom, school office and school kitchen for the collection of newspaper/magazines, tin and aluminium cans, glass bottles/jars, plastic bags/bottles and textiles. We have designated recycling monitors who collect up these items ready for a collection. Each classroom, school kitchens, staffroom and playground have fruit caddy bins in place ready for the disposal of all organic waste. The waste is collected up by the ‘Garden Gang’ who then put into one of the schools compost bins. The compost is then redistributed back into the grounds. We have a recycling collection point in our main reception for used stamps, old mobile phones and inkjet cartridges. These items are the donated to Guide Dogs for the Blind Scheme. This is made available to staff, pupils and parents of the school. Our caretaker separates all waste that can be recycled; this includes cardboard, wood, plastics etc. We have a separate container in the staffroom for used teabags, which are collected for our compost bins. We collected used paper towels which are also used in our compost bins. We have ‘Think Before You Throw’ labels on all bins in the school. We have ‘Recycling Point’ labels on all recycling boxes/containers in the school. We have ‘Turn Off After Use’ labels on all lights switches, computers and water taps. We display ‘Keep Sandwell Tidy’ signs and anti-litter posters around our school. Each classroom has recycling and waste posters on display. We have a Schools Litter Squad who litter pick our schools grounds for any excess litter. Each class has two eco members. One a week these members are responsible for collecting a disposing of all their classes’ waste paper. This paper is weighed and the results are plotted onto a graph which can be viewed on our Eco Board. We have a nature area which is used during the summer term for geography lessons, in conjunction with our Think Before You Throw programme. Children are encouraged to choose a healthy option for lunch. As a result healthy eating certificates are awarded; we also praised children who bring minimal packaging for home for their lunches. All children have water bottles and are continually encourage drinking water, by using the water dispensers located around the school. This encourages the reuse of their plastic bottles. Teachers and all staff include healthy living, recycling and looking after our environment into their daily routine. It is also a fixture in our PHSE and Citizenship programme. What We are Going To Do We will be developing our Environmental Garden and introducing lunchtime Gardening Club to grow fruit and vegetables. Plastic bottles will be filled up with water and put in all toilet systems so that less water is used when flushed. Our playground is in the process of having a face-lift; we will be introducing a recycling area, a picnic area, planting new flowers and shrubs and developing our nature garden and composting club. We will be taking part in healthy walks and cycling with Sandwell MBC Road Safety Team. We will be holding an Eco Week with external environmental organisations. We are looking into having sensor lighting and sensor water taps installed. We want to become a Fair Trade school. We will try and buy recycled products for classroom use, where possible.
