GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION AS A SPECIALIST ACCREDITED CHECKER
An applicant for registration as a specialist accredited checker has to meet the following requirements:
1.
Applicant must be registered as a professional engineer in the specialised branch of geotechnical engineering under the Professional Engineers Act.
2.
Applicant must have: a) after registration as a professional engineer in the branch of civil engineering, practical experience at a professional level for a period not less than 10 years, of which not less than 5 years experience shall be in geotechnical engineering works in Singapore; or b) practical experience in civil or structural engineering for a period of not less than 15 years, of which not less than 5 years experience shall be in geotechnical engineering works in Singapore after registration as a professional engineer.
3.
Applicant must have been involved in projects of engineering complexity with substantial geotechnical content which the applicant was responsible for in exercising independent engineering judgement that can include design, construction, checking or reviewing geotechnical works or investigating into geotechnical failures or problems.
4.
Applicant should have been involved in any of following types of project which are of substantial geotechnical complexity that requires applicant to exercise independent professional judgement in the area of geotechnical engineering: a) foundations of high-rise buildings of more than 30 storeys; b) excavation work of depth more than 6 metres; c) open face or bored tunnels of more than 2 metres in diameter; d) permanent or temporary stabilisation of slope with a height of more than 6 metres.
5.
The Commissioner of Building Control may require the applicant to undergo an interview to determine whether the applicant has acquired the requisite practical experience.
