Hi Mike Further to our meeting in relation to the proposed logging of pine trees on the northern slopes directly below the observatory on Kaiti Hill, in my opinion there are unlikely to be any geotechnical issues of significance to address in relation to the felling of trees beyond that which would need to be addressed for any steeply sloping terrane. This conclusion is drawn from our extensive knowledge of the engineering geology of Kaiti Hill and the variations of the geotechnical performance of the slopes forming it from several deep level geotechnical investigations for repairs to the road and also from numerous walkovers of the hill, including the subject catchment proposed to be logged.
