We received more than 70 applications from Russia, Poland, USA, Colombia, France, Spain, UK, China, India, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Canada, Switzerland, Finland, and Germany. RAS, RFBR, PAGES, IGBP, and SCOR kindly provided financial support for this conference. We are looking forward to see you in September 5-10, on the Vistula Spit. Please have a look at YOUR abstract again and format it according to the example of the first abstract “Estimation of tendencies of change for different characteristics of extratropical cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere” by Mirseid G. Akperov and Igor I. Mokhov. Underline the author who will present the paper at the conference. If you want to publish your paper in the peer reviewed journal “Geography, Environment, Sustainability”, please have your manuscript ready with your by the time of the conference. 1 VENUE Conference will be held at the Field Research Station “Baltic Spit” of the Atlantic Branch of Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences, located in Kosa Village, City of Baltiysk, Kaliningrad Oblast (Province), Russian Federation. The station is located at the Vistula Spit just near the inlet of the Vistula Lagoon, at a walking distance (5-7 minutes) from the lagoon and seashore. TRAVEL DETAILS It is planned that the representatives of Organizing Committee will meet foreign participants in the Airport “Hrabrovo”. Please, contact individually Anastasia Domnina annasta_sea@mail.ru on this occasion. The registration and meeting of arriving people will be opened from 10:00 till 16:00 on 5th of September. Registration will be at the Laboratory Building of the Atlantic Brach of P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. Address: Pionerskaya str., 61, Kaliningrad. The Laboratory Building is a 3-stage old-fashion red bricks building constructed before the World War II. It is located just in front of two 14-stage blocks at the Vasilevskii Square (“Ploschad’ Vasilevskogo” – in Russian) diagonal through the main road-cross from the Amber Museum (“Muzey Yantaria” – in Russian). The bus stop is called “Ploschad’ Vasilevskogo” or (“Muzey Yantaria” = Amber Museum). You can easy reach this place by bus from the Kaliningrad airport (which called Hrabrovo), by intercity bus from Klaipeda City, by public transport from the Kaliningrad city centre and from the Main Train and Bus stations. The bus from the Kaliningrad Airport “Hrabrovo” departures every hour from 08:00 t0 23:00. It connects the airport with Main Bus Station, which is just nearby to Main Train Station. Our bus stop “Ploschad’ Vasilevskogo” is one among several official stops of this bus within the city area. The cost of bus ticket is about 30 rubles (1 euro). There is an official taxi service from the airport to the city (Taxi 058). The 2 minimal cost during day time for “Taxi 058” is 300 rubles. Taxi trip from the Train or Bus stations to the “Ploschad’ Vasilevskogo” cost minimum 150 rubles. Please ask about receipt before you will use taxi. Note that you will need cash (Russian rubles) to pay for public transport and taxi. But there is no exchange office in the airport. EXCURSION Conference program will include an excursion to the Curonian Spit (Kurshskaya Kosa – in Russian), 98 km long and narrow sand peninsula, which separates Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. The “Kurshskaya Kosa” is one of the oldest national parks in Russia. It is a favourite holiday place for residents of Kaliningrad and guests of Amber Land, as Kaliningrad Oblast is informally named. The excursion is planned for 10 September. The conference fee covers this excursion. CONFERENCE FEES A registration fee will apply for all registered participants. This fee will cover local transportation, food, drinks, accommodation, welcome barbeque during the conference and conference materials as well as cost of the excursion. Conference fee has to be paid upon arrival in EURO or Russian Rubles. Receipts will be available. Full registration € 300 per person Young scientists registration € 250 per person Accompanying person € 250 per person ACCOMMODATION Participants will be accommodated at the Scientific Station "Baltic Spit" (price included in the registration fee). Rooms are for 2-3 persons, toilets and shower are located in the corridor. Participants who prefer to live outside the Station are kindly asked to book living facilities (http://all-hotels.ru/baltiysk/hotels/index.en.html). reduced accordingly in this case. 3 by Conference themselves fee will be FINANCIAL SUPPORT Basing on the merits of the submitted abstracts and taking into consideration the national balance of the conference attendees the Organizing Committee selected 19 participants for financial support provided by international project IGBP, SCOR, and PAGES. We will contact these participants personally on behalf of these organizations to inform them about the details of their reimbursement before 1 July. VISA SUPPORT Note that your passport should be valid for 6 months after the trip termination, i.e. until beginning of March of 2012. Please consider that the Visa must be issued by the Russian Consulate in your country. Official invitation which you will get from Local Organizing Committee is not a visa, and it has to be used as obligatory attachment to your personal visa application to the Russian Consulate in your country. Participants from Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan do not need the visa. Participants from EU countries must get invitation letter from Local Organizing Committee by e-mail and post mail to start of obtaining the visa. Participants from USA, Colombia, UK, China, India, Turkmenistan, Canada and Switzerland must get invitation letter and special invitation from Local Organizing Committee by e-mail and post mail to start of obtaining the visa. Special invitation is made about a month in the Russian migratory service. Therefore give your personal information as soon as possible, please. 4
