K02: Independent Scientist Award (K02) The purpose of the K02 program is to provide protected time for newly independent scientists who can demonstrate the need for a period of intensive research focus as a means of enhancing their research careers. K05: Senior Scientist Research and Mentorship Award (K05) The purpose of the K05 program is to provide protected time for outstanding senior scientists who have demonstrated a sustained high level of productivity conducting biomedical research and to provide mentoring of new investigators. K07: Academic Career Award (K07) The purpose of the K07 program is to provide protected time for individuals (both junior and senior) interested in introducing or improving curricula in a particular scientific field as a means of enhancing the educational or research capacity at the grantee institution. (Really a training award) K08: Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08) The K08 program represents the continuation of a long-standing NIH commitment to provide protected time to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in the fields of biomedical and behavioral research. K23: Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) The purpose of the K23 program is to support the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research.
