SYLLABUS Animals
KEY ARTS AND CRAFTS 1
PRIMARY
ANIMALS
METHODOLOGY
The acquisition of cultural and artistic competence in Primary Education focuses upon
familiarity and appreciation of diverse cultural and artistic expression as a source of
personal enrichment to arouse awareness of a universal culture. Content which comes
under Block 1, Observing Art, will focus on the following areas:
▪ Introducing students to the animal world through images that combine work with
farm animals and ones in their natural habitat.
▪ Inviting students to appreciate the different sensations produced by blending
colours in their work.
▪ Exposing students to the work of Franz Marc, students will enrich their perception
of the animal world, thanks to elements of imagination and fantasy in his work.
▪ Developing imagination through an exercise where the observation of a doodle
promotes creativity.
Content under Block 2, Expression and Artistic Creation, will utilise the following
methods:
▪ Drawing animals from different sources and using varied art techniques, such as:
templates, geometric shapes as starters (ovals), etc. This seeks to establish the
concept of geometric shapes as a prelude to figurative drawing.
▪ Developing the expressive possibilities of spontaneous sketching through drawing
animals which will also include skills that generate artistic momentum.
▪ Enhance skills related to the use of diverse tools and techniques.
The unit closes with an activity entitled Hands On! This serves to address both the
concept of volume and the organisation of different pieces to construct an artistic
composition, an animal.
▪ Through creative activities and singing songs, students’ knowledge of English will
be improved and enhanced. Class work will focus upon essential vocabulary for the
art projects, as well as other basic structures and vocabulary for the accurate
completion of the verbal activities.
