Project: Keep our Troops Warm!
Materials:
150 Yards Worsted Weight Yarn* (yielding 4.5 to 5.5 sts per inch)
*Appropriate colors for our troops: blue, green, red, brown, tan, gray, black or red, white & blue combos.
Do not add any pom-poms, tassels or embellishments.
*Preferably super wash wools! Please tag hat if not super wash and specify washing instructions.
Size 8, 9 or 10 needles, straight/circular needles 16’ long and a set of dpn’s to match.
Note: Don’t worry too much about gauge, the more sizes the better…what won’t fit one will fit another! Just get knittin’.
For Straight Needles:
Cast on 80 sts. (If you knit tightly you may add more stitches in multiples of 8)
Work in ribbing K1,P1 or K2,P2 for 1.5-2”. Work in stockinet stitch (K1 row, P1 row) until total length is 8 to 10" from
beginning.
Begin decreases:

Cut yarn leaving a 6" tail. Using a darning needle thread the 6" inch yarn tail through rem sts and firmly fasten. Weave
ends. Sew seams.
For Circular Needles:
Cast on 80 sts. (If you knit tightly you may add more stitches in multiples of 8)
Work in ribbing K1,P1 or K2,P2 for 1.5-2”. Work all rounds until piece measures 8 to 10” from beginning. Change to
dpn’s when needed.
