encouraged to present cases in meetings. There are a number of other activities – please see separate page. Library facilities and PCs with internet connections are available

Other Activities For Students Attached To Whyteman’s Brae Hospital
By Arrangement (subject to staff availability & service demands)
The aim of these sessions is to provide experience of the wide range of psychiatric
services. Students are advised to read the aims and objectives outlined on pages
2 and 3 and the check list of tasks on page 7 of the Year 4 Psychiatry Study
Guide.
Ward Activities (Compulsory)
Interview new cases on Ravenscraig ward or Dunnikier Day Hospital.
Domiciliary visits with your Consultant.
Mental Health Act Hearings at Elizabeth House.
On-call assessments with duty junior doctor/Unscheduled Care Assessment Team.
Dunnikier Day Hospital (Compulsory)
Clozapine Clinic (By arrangement with Charge Nurse John Harris Ext 23955)
CPN Service (Compulsory)
Please contact CPNs in first week of your placement to arrange visits. This is not
always possible as nursing students are on placement.

Levenmouth Team: (01592) 583663 (secretary has half day Tues/Thurs). Option of
LMHT meeting on a Thursday.
Addiction Service (Additional)
There are clinics in Addiction Psychiatry which are suitable for students to attend.
These clinics take place at Whyteman’s Brae Hospital in Kirkcaldy on Wednesday
mornings between 9 am and midday. If you wish to attend a clinic in Addiction
Psychiatry please arrange this in advance by calling:

Child & Family Psychiatry (Additional)
It is possible to arrange experience of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry while on
placement in NHS Fife. General clinics in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry take
place at the Playfield Institute at Stratheden Hospital on a Wednesday morning and
sometimes continue into the afternoon. Importantly, Dr. Grimmer, Consultant in Child
and Adolescent Psychiatry, asks that students call either Shirley Eadie on 01334
696250 or Pam Kirkman 01334 696243 to let them know that they want to attend and
only one student at a time is permitted to attend child and adolescent clinics.

Clinical Skills Facilitator (Additional)
June Adamson, Clinical Skills Facilitator, can be contacted to arrange practical
experience in clinical skills, such as venepuncture, venous cannulation and male and
female urinary catheterisation, during your placement in NHS Fife. Please contact

Homelessness Liaison (Mental Health) Nurse Service and Alcohol Related Brain
Damage Nurse Service (Additional)
Please contact Charge Nurse Wendy Woodruff on extension 22007 in order to arrange
to visit these services.
Learning Disability (Additional)
Please contact secretary of Learning Disability Consultant, Lynebank Hospital
(Margaret/Jean/Jennifer Ext 35258) in the first week of your placement to arrange a
visit.
Liaison Psychiatry Team (Additional)
This multidisciplinary team responds to urgent and routine requests for mental health
care within the general hospital setting of the Victoria Hospital. There may be
opportunities to shadow Mental Health Liaison Nurse, Lynne Mosley, and Consultant
Liaison Psychiatrist, Dr Gavin Philipson. Please phone extension 23966 at
Whyteman’s Brae Hospital if you wish to arrange to visit the service.
Occupational Therapy (Additional)
An Occupational Therapy teaching session will be pre-arranged for you.
Occupational Therapy can be contacted on extension 28185.
Old Age Psychiatry (Additional)
Westfield Day Hospital; attend functional or organic days (Ext 28198).
Pain Clinic (Additional)
The flagship multi-professional Pain Clinic is located at Queen Margaret Hospital in
Dunfermline. If you wish to attend the Pain Clinic please contact the service on
01383 623623 Ext 24749 in order to arrange a suitable time to visit.
Social Work Service (Additional)
Emergency assessments with duty MHO - Contact Julie Paterson, MHO Team via
clerical worker at Elizabeth House on (01592) 583652.
Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy (Additional)
Allan Grant (Chaplain) attends Ravenscraig Ward on Thursday afternoons and at
other times by prior arrangement. Please call extension 56240 in order to arrange a
meeting.
The Fife Hearing Voices Network (Additional)
The Fife Hearing Voices Network is based in Kirkcaldy and they are welcoming to

Unscheduled Care Assessment Team (Additional)
It may be possible to shadow one of the Charge Nurses on duty in this nurse-led team
who respond to unscheduled requests for care and coordinate clinical activity on the
