Interpreting Scientific Results and Developing Conclusions: In this session, writers will hold a “symposium” to have scientific discussions about their latest study. I will explain to the class that when writing a conclusion page, it is important to ask”why?” and to speculate about answers. I will tell students that scientists often consult outside resources – other scientists’ experiments, other articles and resources to help them interpret their own results and write conclusions. Authors Share Scientific Ideas/Conclusions: In this session, I will teach students that scientists spend a lot of time writing about their conclusions. They push themselves to ask Why? And then offer the best explanation they can based on their results. In this way, their conclusions often lead to more investigations and research. Ways to help at home! *Log on to pearsonsuccessnet.com to check out the practice test assigned. username: first initial, last name cv (dcherrycv) password: first initial, student number (d1234567890) *Find books or information on force, motion, friction…information that will help us study and understand our ramps and lab experiments *Complete the reading stems and graphic organizer at home. Using Revision Materials and Writing: In this session, the focus will be the quantity of writing children produce. Scientists Learn From Other Sources as Well as from Experiments: In this session, I will teach students that when scientists want to improve their writing, they learn more about what they are investigating. That is, scientists improve their writing by learning more science and then revise their writing based on what they learned. Problem Solving: Look for a Pattern: Children will use number patterns to solve problems. Essential Understanding: Some problems can be solved by identifying elements that repeat in a predictable way. Topic 6: Re-teaching: Mentally add multiples of 10 to a two-digit number. Add a two-digit number to a two-digit number using mental math. Use a hundreds chart to add 2-digit numbers. Add multiples of 10. Use number pattern to solve problems. Purpose: Provide children with more examples and practice for each lesson in the topic.
