We used photos, books, videos and songs to help reinforce the sequence and steps needed to grow. See if your child can tell you the difference between a pumpkin and a jack-o-lantern (one has a face and one does not). We targeted amounts of more/less and 1-5 in the AM and 1-10 in the PM using pumpkins seeds to count. During circle on Thursday, I switched up the counting and targeted prepositions. Using a pumpkin and a seed, friends had turns putting the seed in front of, behind, in back, next to and under the pumpkin. Both the AM and PM sessions did great!! We tried to trick our friends with our questions but they demonstrated the concepts with ease. Both classes had fun in the arts and crafts center with black and orange paper, markers, glue and other fun stuff. It is wonderful to see our friends so creative! Next Week- It is hard to believe that Halloween is next week! To go along with some of our counting and sorting pumpkin activities, we will read a fun story called The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. This is a very cute story of a lady that takes a walk in the woods and is followed by all sorts of clothing. When she gets home, the clothes try to scare her by turning into a scarecrow with a jack-o-lantern head. But it doesn’t work…the lady is not afraid. Throughout the week we will read, use flannel board pieces and watch a very cute song on youtube to help re-tell and sequence the story. Link to The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiUflxXF-Zg On Friday after the parades, we will come back to the room and have some fun art activities and simple games during Miss Meghan’s language activity. Please send in your child’s normal snack. The teachers will surprise our friends with a special Halloween cookie to go along with their snack. We keep portions small, as we like to try to minimize the amount of sugar. Please let us know if you have questions. A few reminders for Halloween fun on Friday. Please have your child wear their costume to school over their clothes. The parade will take place shortly after the children arrive (AM-9:35, PM-1:20) and there is not much time to change everyone into their costume. Our all school parade will take place outside. If it rains, it will take place in the gym. Please have your child use the bathroom before they come to school. Please keep in mind that if there are many accessories that go with the costume, they are easy to get lost. Many of the children have the same costume throughout the school and we would feel terrible if a portion got left behind or lost. Please keep extra accessories at home. Your child may wear their costume all day if they like, but it can become stuffy and often children like to take them off for the rest of the day. Please make sure they are wearing appropriate clothes underneath the costume. Outside play We will continue to go outside for recess as long as the weather holds out. Please make sure your child comes to school with a jacket appropriate for outside weather. On that note, please do not have your child bring an umbrella on rainy days. We do not go outside when the weather is poor. We have giant umbrellas to use at arrival and departure. It makes it so much easier for staff to get students in and out of the building in poor weather. Thank you Favorite Apps A nice practice for trick-or-treating is the app Fat Cat Spooky Chat. It has simple verbal models of phrases used for trick or treating. Another fun app is from Parents called carve-a pumpkin. This allows children to create their own virtual jack-o-lantern. Simply type the name of the apps in the search box at the app store. Important Dates October 27 October 31 9:35 and 1:20 Kris’s Parent/Teacher Conference Night Halloween Parades
