The province government provides funding to cover an important amount of the total cost. Now a day the activity financing is the main problem because of the currently economic situation of the country. To keep running this initiative the government should reach an agreement involving private agents and private founds. 7 Objectives of the practice The “Tropical Tourism” program is focused on promoting the leisure time and the autonomy of elderly people. A specific apart hotel has been chosen: near to the beach, adapted to people with reduced mobility, comfortable, etc. This action also contributes to the socio economic development of the area. .8 Connection to developing ageing tourism The private accommodation Turismo Tropical, apart hotel of Almuñecar. Other ageing tourism is involved in the program. During the holidays travel agencies offers optional trips and excursion to different places of the local area. The costs of these trips are paid by the visitors. 9 Evaluation (demonstrated results: indicators, success factors, difficulties, lessons learned) 19 direct jobs / 350.000 € economic impact / 600.000 € indirect cost (transports, etc). The 90 percent of the total amount remains in Almuñecar. The satisfaction Forms filled out by customers shows that the main problem is the short duration of the stay, only three days. 10 Transferability of the practices (to other country, region, municipality: is it transferable? already transferred? possible constrains and possible success factors to be taken into account?) It is an easy way to offer pleasure activities to elderly people. The success of the program is basically sustained in the quality of the place chosen and the additional touristic offer. The Tropical Coast of Granada has these qualities. It is also necessary to identify an accommodation with the right conditions to this kind of public. It is also very import to reach an agreement with the local government. 2
