FARADIC TREATMENT (muscle stimulating -toning/facial contour) Also known: Ultratone, Slendertone, Slim-line, TENS, EMS, NMES A faradic facial uses electrical pulses to contract muscles in the face producing an overall toned effect. The contractions increase blood circulation and build muscle. As the muscle builds underneath the skin, it produces the appearance of smoother skin on the surface as well as a fuller, firmer facial contour. Passive muscle exerciser Uses a surged, interrupted direct current The size-intensity-of the current rises and falls rapidly so that the current pulsates Pulses last short time followed by a longer interval when no current is flowing The pulses of current pass through the muscle between two electrodes applied at different point of the muscle Uses on ageing skin-wrinkled with poor elasticity to promote cellular function Loss of firm contour due to muscle weakness EFFECTS OF FARADIC TREATMENT Improves muscle tone and the general condition of the muscle (improvement contour of the face) The pumping action increases the supply of blood to the skin and muscle Bringing nutrients and oxygen to the skin and removing waste products (Improved condition of the skin and muscle) Vasodilation giving erythema The contraction and relaxation of the muscle aids the removal of fluid from the area-relieves swelling It irritates sensory nerve endings CONTRA- INDICATION FOR FARADIC TREATMENTS Hypersensitive skin Highly vascular complexion High blood pressure Sinus congestion Headaches or migraine Many skin abrasions Over superficial bony areas Large number of fillings or bridgework Epileptic or diabetic client Highly nervous client Cancer Skin disorders and diseases Excessive cuts and bruises Heart condition Peacemaker Preparation of the client for FARADIC TREATMENT Place the client in a well supported, comfortable position Check that all the jewellery has been removed Cleanse the face thoroughly (twice) Tone the skin to remove all grease –barrier to the current Check for contra-indications and perform skin sensitivity test Explain the treatment to the client (prickling sensation giving way to contraction. Always ask the client for any discomfort). Procedure for FARADIC TREATMENT Prepare the machine, place on the stable base and check/secure all the plugs and leads. Check that the intensity controls are at zero. Collect commodities: hot water or saline solution and cotton wool Prepare the electrodes Moisten the electrode Check the current on yourself (holding both electrodes in one hand) Turns the dial back to zero. Place the electrode in position on the face. Tell the client that the machine is being switched on. Turn the intensity control slowly until a prickling sensation is felt; continue increasing the intensity until the contraction is obtained. After 6-8 contractions turn the intensity down to zero. Move the electrode to the next muscle and repeat procedure. Repeat 3 times. If using a mask electrode, treat the client for 10-15 min When the treatment is complete, turn the intensity to zero, remove the electrode and switch the machine off. Apply toner over the treated area. Advice on facial exercises for home care. Wipe the electrode with disinfectant wipe. Treatment time 10-15 min
