Introduction
Pembroke Dock Community School has committed to the implementation of the Professional
Learning School model and accepted the conditions attached to becoming a PLS for Leadership
Development in Family and Community Engagement. We are developing our current programme
to include further elements of excellent practice to ensure that the Case Study provides appropriate
guidance for other schools in the region for developing or improving their own programmes with
relation to this aspect of school development.

Brief description and outline plan including expected impact:
Leadership Development Programme
The Leadership Development Programme in our school involves a significant contribution to the
leadership modules for the graduate and post graduate certificate & diploma programmes being
developed for the region by UWTSD.
This is translated into our school leadership programme that offers the opportunity for aspiring middle
leaders to shadow and work alongside leadership colleagues to develop an understanding of the
expectations, functions and accountability that are associated with school leadership when developing
family and community engagement.
Opportunities for development include:









Understanding the benefits of working with families and the role of school leaders
Data analysis, e-FSM pupils vs n-FSM pupils & Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation
Role of Family Support Officers
Early Intervention strategies when engaging families
Understanding the benefits of providing courses for adult and family learning through
Springboard
Working in partnership with a range of external agencies
The benefits of running the FAST (Families and Schools Together) programme
Providing learning opportunities for community members in the school to gain qualifications and
employment prospects
Self Evaluation and Development Planning
Colleagues will access the opportunities to shadow and work alongside current school leaders to
understand the importance of family and community engagement and the benefits it brings to pupils, in
particular disadvantaged learners.
Colleagues will use this as one of their Performance Management objectives with a clear focus on
developing their own knowledge and skills to become a future school leader

Key elements that the school considers can be shared with other schools:
1. How to develop aspiring leaders within the school context through providing family
and community engagement opportunities
2. How to develop effective partnerships between school, parents and the community
3. The links to self-evaluation and development plans
4. The link to performance management and opportunities to access external
leadership modules
As a Professional Learning School for Leadership Development, Pembroke Dock Community School
will continue to use regional funding and other resources to:
 Attend meetings to monitor, evaluate and review practices in developing the regional model
of good practice for Professional Learning Schools
 Collaborate with UWTSD in developing modules of Professional Learning for teachers at all
stages of career development
 Develop the use of resources to continue to effectively support our school programme
 Offer ways of sharing the excellent practice with other schools across the LA/Hub/Region
 Plan for and deliver INSET to schools within the LA and across the Hub/Region
 Participate in school to school support programmes
 Provide progress reports and feedback to ERW and other PLS schools
 Develop the Case Study for ERW as a Centre of Excellence Practice
 Deliver presentations to the relevant bodies as required (ERW: WG: LAs: Schools)
