PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SCHOOL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Ysgol y Dderwen Carmarthenshire Introduction Ysgol y Dderwen has committed to the implementation of the Professional Learning School model and accepted the conditions attached to becoming a PLS for Leadership Development We are developing our current programme to include further elements of excellent practice to ensure that the Case Study provides appropriate guidance for other schools in the region for developing or improving their own programmes with relation to this aspect of school development. Edwards: Assistant Headteacher Assistant Headteacher Brief description and outline plan including expected impact: Leadership Development Programme The Leadership Development Programme at Ysgol y Dderwen involves a significant contribution to the leadership modules for the graduate and post graduate certificate diploma programmes being developed for the region by UWTSD. This is translated into our school leadership programme that offers the opportunity for aspiring middle leaders to receive support on developing a whole school approach to effective self evaluation and how this leads to a purposeful school development plan. Aspiring middle leaders will further develop an understanding of the expectations, functions and accountability that are associated with school leadership. Opportunities for development include: Understanding the role of school leaders Data analysis Leadership v management Managing staff on a practical day to day basis Time management as a school leader Prioritisation of tasks Understanding subject specific pedagogy Self Evaluation and Development Planning Colleagues will access the opportunities to study modules and attend workshops that outline the processes of whole school leadership. This will lead to a deeper understanding of the timeline of events and the processes involved in addressing school improvement. Aspiring leaders develop skills and knowledge providing support for school succession planning.
