Word order is important in English because it helps us understand the meaning
of a sentence.
The basic order:
SVOMPT
Subject + Verb + Object + Manner + Place + Time
Possibilities:
1) Subject + verb + object +complement
The teacher+ called + me + stupid.
2) Subject + verb + (object/complement) + adverbial
The guests + arrived + yesterday.
3) Subject + verb + that clause
He + claimed + that children should be more polite.
4) Subject + verb + indirect object (person) + direct object
(thing)
John + bought + his girlfriend/her + a silver ring.
5) Subject + verb +direct object + preposition + indirect object
John + bought + a silver ring + for his girlfriend/for her.
