Herd share summary
The herd share arrangement will be made with BJ’s Cowboarding in Standish, MI. BJ’s Cowboarding is an
organic dairy operated by Joe and Brenda Golimbieski and their family. They have a relatively small
commercial dairy and herd share operation. Their cow herd consists of several breeds of dairy cows. Joe
has selectively bred for cows that give the A2 beta casein protein in their milk. Baker’s Green Acres acts as
an agent to handle the herd share contracts, payments, and deliveries.
$30 to buy one share, which equals one gallon of milk/week. This is a one time expense. You only have to
buy the cow once.
$36/mo. for one share= one gal. milk/week, to be paid monthly. This is called “yardage” on the invoice as it
covers the care and feeding of your share per month. Delivery is additional if needed.
There are services available to make cream and butter with the milk from your share. You may order these
services as your regular share or order them as an addition to your regular liquid milk share. This is called a
“provisional share”
The herdsman (farmer) will keep the milk supply steady by rotating cows as their needs dictate. However,
the herd needs to be maintained at all times. Cows can’t skip milkings or meals, or take a week vacation.
To enable the herdsman to properly manage the herd, the boarding fee will be stable. If you will be gone
and can’t accept delivery, contact us to discuss options.
We assume you understand the risks and responsibilities of real milk. If you’d like more information, please
let us know.
Your share of milk is for your own personal use. Real milk and real milk products may not be sold, per
Michigan law. This is the right and responsibility of you as a cow herd share owner and real milk consumer.
If either party terminates the share contract, the farm will buy back your share. If your board is not paid in
a regular and timely fashion, your share will revert back to the farm, with your buy back fee going towards
unpaid board. Please contact us in writing if you wish to increase, decrease, or terminate your share.
Regular plastic recyclable containers are provided. Due to the complexities of retrieving, washing, and
handling glass jars, we are unable to use them at this time.
You will need to pick up your milk as scheduled. It’s a perishable product and we strive to get it to you as
fresh as possible. Please let us know as soon as possible if you’ll have trouble making your pick-up or will
be unable to pick up your products any given week.
If there should be extraordinary vet expenses, they will be divided on a per share basis between the
owners.

It is the responsibility of the herdsman (farmer) to care for the cows in the best way possible. Joe and
Brenda (the farmers) do their best to prevent problems through good husbandry and natural/herbal means,
but will use pharmaceuticals if necessary for the health of the animal. Should such a situation arise, you
will not receive milk from any medicated cows. The cows will be on pasture for as long as the season allows
and their hay for the winter is organic. They get some grain at milking (soy and GMO free, organic, and
usually not corn) and receive a mineral salt block free choice.
The agreements you sign are private contracts between the parties. The milk from your share of the herd is
yours at all times and the products and contracts are not in any way “public domain.”
You are welcome to visit any time. Please call ahead so someone can be available.
