COWTRACKERTM WHAT IS COWTRACKERTM? CowTrackerTM is a herd management service designed to help farmers to understand their herds better by collecting, organising and analysing information about their herds and providing them with reports about their performance. HOW DOES IT WORK? It does this by capturing information about individual animals recorded by the farmer in whatever form the farmer collects it; computerising it; storing it; and analysing it. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT TO THE FARMER ? Lifts the burden of organising and analysing information from the farmer; Builds up a complete picture of the performance of individual cows and the herd; Allows the farmer to concentrate on taking action to fix the problems identified and improving their performance based on what the reports are telling them about their herds. Calvings - Unit of Birth; Date of Birth; Age at Calving; Sire (Tag & Name); Calf (Tag & Name). Transfers - Date of Transfer; Origin; Destination; Reason for Transfer; Comment. Milk Records – Date; Morning Production; Evening Production. Exit From Herd – Mode; Date; Unit; Reason; Post-Mortem; Disposal; Buyer; Sale Price. WHAT REPORTS / ANALYSES ARE PRODUCED? Using the information captured and stored, the system produces the following information: Milk History – A table showing for each year of the animal’s productive life, milk produced in each month of the year; total milk produced in the year; the number of days milked; and the average yield per day in the year. WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED? Basic Information – Tag Number; Name; Location; Breed; Purpose; Group; On-Farm; For Culling; Sold Birth Details – Date of Birth; Place of Birth; Age (Calculated); Dam; Sire Entry Into Herd – Mode; Date; Unit; Price (if bought). Heats & Services - Date Observed; Observed By; Date Served; Bull (Tag & Name); Method of Service; Inseminator; PD Date & Result; Expected Calving Date (Calculated) Lactation Analysis – A table showing for each of up to 12 lactations, Date of Calving; Calf Produced; milk produced and days milked in each month of the lactation; total milk produced and total days milked in that lactation. Lactation Curves – A graph showing each of the lactations Cow Card – A 3-4 page printout showing all information about an animal that has been entered into the system WHAT IS THE COST TO THE FARMER? The currently prices for the various services are as follows: Registration – UGX 10,000 per cow covering basic information; birth details; and entry into the herd. Event Recording – UGX 1,000 per event (i.e. Heat & Service; Calvings; Transfers; Exits). Milk Recording – UGX 250 per cow per milk day. Historical data can also be captured at UGX ___ per lactation. Cow Card Print Out – UGX 1,000 per page including written interpretation of the report.
