Location-York Region We are seeking experienced mental health professionals to work within an innovative, collaborative and integrated approach to supporting communities. COMPASS- Community Partners with Schools aims to build resiliency and improve the community’s capacity to respond to the mental health needs of children, youth and families. Multiple approaches support the goals of the initiative including an integrated interdisciplinary school based team and a local Community Planning Table. The Child and Family Resource Liaison will become a member of an interdisciplinary school based team. These unique integrated teams comprised of education and mental health personnel provide specialized services to schools within York Region. In the role of Child and Family Resource Liaison you will participate in team consultations and assessments and help build the capacity of school staff in supporting children with mental health, socio- emotional and behavioral needs. You will provide brief treatment to children, youth and families as well as assist in identifying resources and act as a liaison for the child and family between school -based services and community services. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to work within a system change context. Role/Duties include: Working cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team Observation, assessment, and formulation of comprehensive strategies to support children and youth in the context of the school, family and community Assisting school staff in the development and implementation of student support strategies and programs Modeling and coaching staff within a capacity building framework; working with both community agencies and school staff Conducting clinical consultations and assessments in partnership with the school team; recommending a treatment direction/formulation, providing case management and brief treatment services (approx 5 mos), and providing and supporting referrals to community resources where appropriate Providing Case Management; or assisting in the support of and designation of a case manager who ensures coordinated, collaborative services. Acting as a bridge for the school, student and family between school based services and community services Ensuring the provision of quality integrated services in the most efficient and effective manner for the school, student and family. This position requires you to service the school, student, and family as your clientele. Qualifications/Skill Set Theoretical/practical knowledge normally obtained through the completion of a post secondary degree/diploma in Behavioral Sciences (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, etc.) combined with at least 5 years of work experience in a clinical setting, sound knowledge of systems theory, family development/dynamics, school based models and mental health treatment modalities. Essential skills include: Understanding of education, mental health and child welfare legislation, knowledge of school systems, the ability to work flexibly within multi systems, demonstrated leadership capacity, conflict resolution, critical thinking, a thorough knowledge of York Region and its services, outstanding organizational and time management skills, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, expertise in case management and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Affiliation with an accredited professional body is preferred. Knowledge of CAFAS and BCFPI is an asset. Please note this position requires a car and involves extensive travel.
